This is the first negative review we've received since we signed up with Airbnb two years ago. Our best response is to refer the reader to other comments on our site. A few remarks about the tenant’s claims: The property is on a certified organic produce farm. What may appear as weeds, are actually a hay field and hedgerows intended to attract and provide habitats for beneficial insects. The barn is a beautifully renovated building with comfortable rooms. We have an outstanding cleaning service. The suite is intended for a two-person occupancy: one bedroom, large closet and full bath. Because we sometimes have non-couple guests staying, we intentionally have two twins that we put together as a king when requested. The tenants abused the agreement by having their daughter and two nieces stay with them for several nights. They took several additional towels for their guests resulting in us asking for a $4.00 fee for extra towels weekly. We are not surprised they were uncomfortable in the suite and spilled over to other areas of the building, including a large middle room that is a shared space for the people staying in the apartment on other side of the barn. This middle shared space does not have AC but two large fans and cross ventilation. They asked for access to a second room with AC “to sit with family members in the evening” and were allowed to do so at no additional charge. They had control of the thermostat and set it on permanent hold at 71 degrees (on occasion at 69 degrees). The extra room with the thermostat was used for a single night by our visiting daughter, and locked that one night. When they banged at our door that evening to complain that it was too hot we showed them the thermostat: still set at 71 degrees. They called late one night when we were out of town to say that the AC was broken. We had it checked within the hour by our handyman and it was operating. By 9 am the next morning a technician did a thorough inspection and maintenance. There was no serious interruption in service. When they told us about ants (in the shared middle space), we treated the area. They placed trash (and dog poop) in the recycling bin. The recycling bin was filled to capacity once on the day our apartment guests (who left a glowing review) checked out and was emptied the next morning. It may be significant to note that all was well until tenants needed to depart early and asked Airbnb for a refund.
