After a one week stay, I must say that I cannot recommend this place. One of the previous reviews said that this place is an authentic experience. No, it’s not. If you want an authentic experience you need to stay somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, not in a neighborhood that looks like post-war syria. This is like staying in the slums. It's near istikal street but I don't think that's a big deal and taksim square has nothing interesting. Fatih would've been a better choice but that was purely my fault. The check-in was awful. I had to call the host when I arrived because I couldn’t find the place based on pictures. It isn’t visible from the street and is sandwiched between dilapidated buildings with broken and missing windows. In addition, the host didn’t remember I was arriving that day. Then, the people who were checking me in, wanted my passport to photocopy. I’ve never had to give my passport to any places I’ve stayed, all the way from Scandinavia to Jordan and Egypt. I wouldn’t have had a problem if they’d told me beforehand. I never met Nida during my whole stay and she doesn’t live in the building. It’s a apartment building furnished for rental and also serves as a makeshift hotel. The wifi is slow and goes in and out. Nighttime noises included helicopters, street cats fighting, street dogs howling, and this weird loud gurgling noise that comes from the kitchen sink. There were occasional brown-outs, in which the power went off for a few minutes. The road payment outside is crumbling and the streets smell like cat piss. The one good thing about this place is that the interior looks like the pictures.

Respuesta de Nida:
We are sorry for our guest’s unpleasant experience with his stay in Istanbul at our property. My husband and I wish we had a chance to meet him in person to give a proper welcome. We have a 24-hour staff at disposal of our guests. There were indeed two persons at the time of his arrival. I suppose he could not think of ringing the bell. We kindly ask our guests to hand their passports for us to make a Xerox copy. We are required to register our guests to Police Department servers as in a regular hotel. We think this is important for general safety of the property for our guests. Sometimes our guests get such an impression of a less-well-to do neighbourhood when they first arrive at the building, but as soon as they begin to explore the area they realise the authentic charm of a street with many facilities including Carrefour grocery chain just next door, a local barber shop, a little patisserie, etc; and their first impression is replaced with the pleasure of having chosen the best value in Istanbul, as earlier reviews witnessed. We make no commitment at all to personally meet our guests though we do our best not only to meet but take our time to respond any questions they may have during their stay. We have installed the best existing internet service in Istanbul. If it sometimes slows down it means it slows everywhere in the city. We don’t intend to reply the exaggerated comments like “slums”, which is not true. Our property is located on a safe back-street only 200 meters to Istiklal Avenue, and 50 meters to British Consulate. We were especially disturbed by the brutality of an insensitive comparison made by using the phrase “post-war Syria” referring to a lower middle income neighbourhood in the middle of Istanbul. We also found the use of this phrase humiliating and politically incorrect given all the history behind and suffering of people in another country. This description of a central Istanbul neighbourhood is an extremely mean statement, expressed with an immature style. The people of our neighbourhood have been living here for couple of generations and there is a feeling of solidarity among them. The same feeling is extended to the dogs and cats of the streets. They are territorial and being looked after by the residents (and sometimes by our guests). We love them. Sometimes they fight! There are couple of old buildings on our street as in the whole Beyoglu district. These buildings are under the protection of the Ministry of Tourism and are regarded as first or second degree Historic Structures. Their renovation is under strict control of the government. This is why sometimes their renovation takes longer as it requires a long legal and bureaucratic procedures. Our guest is referring to such a building when he was addressing it as “dilapidated, with broken windows”. We are deeply sorry for an occasional helicopter noise. Since our property is in the middle of downtown Istanbul, we assume such an inconvenience does not occur very often. Well known big hotels such as Hilton, Intercontinental and Hyatt are all in our neighbourhood of Taksim. Perhaps these hotels have their own helicopter grounds. We should take this opportunity to thank our guest for his comment about our integrity of showing our apartments in the pictures as they are. Our apartments are exactly as they look in the pictures. We once more feel grateful for the generosity of our guests in the last three years who extended their encouraging thoughts and appreciation via the reviews on this platform, still continuing to support us to this day.

My husband and I stayed 5 nights at Nida's apartment. It was very clean, modern , comfortable . Good location, exactly as described . We felt safe there.Walked 10-15 min.to Taksim square , there you can take a metro . We had a couple meals at the eatery across the street . Really good food, nothing fancy- but sooooo delicious ! Nida and her husband are caring, warm and very nice people. They share they knowledge about Istanbul , Nida lent us her Istanbul card , which gives you a discount on transportation. I would recommend this apartment for my friends.

I spent 5 days in Istanbul traveling with my girlfriend and we had a great experience staying here. Nida, the host, was extremely helpful in giving us recommendations on things to see/avoid in town and even saved us some time by providing us with entry tickets to some of the sights. The proximity to Taksim Square made our daily travels quite easy and the room was very well kept and clean, with amenities you would usually see in an actual hotel. Two thumbs up from me!
