A romantic Cotswolds 18th century cottage 1 mile from Stroud. Newly furnished with luxury in mind, log burner, roll top bath, WiFi, Sonos, BluRay. Gorgeous courtyard garden. Walks to the canal, common and woods. Quiet country lane, easy parking.
This is a beautifully cosy cottage hidden away on a country lane walking distance from Stroud. It was built in the 1700s, originally as a brewery. Original features, beams, mullioned windows, stone fireplace, wooden doors, remain.
Rustic as the setting is, the place has been gorgeously newly renovated with a calm and serene palette. Everything is new in the cottage, furniture, beds, oven, TV, etc. Everything designed for comfort!
There are two double bedrooms, one bed is kingsize, one super kingsize, so the cottage comfortably houses two couples, or two individuals. Or a small family.
The hill is a sun trap, looking over the valley with uninterrupted views and gorgeous light unusual in an old cottage. From here there are numerous country walks to be had, to the Canal, the river, the woods, the common.
Lively Stroud, with its arts scene, organic farmer's market, cafes and shops, is one mile away. You can also easily visit pretty Minchinhampton, Painswick, Nailsworth, Cheltenham, Cirencester, Gloucester and Bath.
The Stroud Brewery is 5 mins away, and has real ale, pizza, live music and events at weekends. Waitrose is down the road too.
My family are originally from Stroud and I always had a romantic yearning to return. It's the most beautiful place to witness the seasons changing, and the valleys have a magic all their own. My grampy, a cabinet-maker, was at school with Laurie Lee, and used to work at the mills you can see from the cottage bedrooms. I hope you can share in the love that I have for the area and all it has to offer. Everyone is remarkably friendly, the food is amazing, the nature is abundant, and it's a hidden gem.
Disponible para huéspedes
You will have access to the whole building, excepting the cellar, which has uneven steps which we don't advise you use. Outside there is also a lovely brick outbuilding which we use as an office/art room. It's insulated and has an inbuilt heater. You're welcome to use it for work or pleasure! Please be aware that the quirky cottage has quite steep steps and low ceilings that might not be suitable for the very young or elderly and infirm.
International Guests! In the UK, our front doors lock automatically upon closing. If you go into the garden, remember to take keys with you. We've had a couple of international guests lock themselves out by mistake!
Atención a los huéspedes
It is unlikely you will see us, although our presence will be felt! - Through a very detailed booklet with tips on our favourite places to go, and information about the cottage. Handover may sometimes be with our lovely cleaner, but there will be a key safe available for late arrivals.

We've made the cottage into our dream retreat, so I hope it is for you too. We've furnished it with comfort and cooking in mind!
Please enjoy use of the herbs, spices, condiments, etc. We want the cottage to be a place of relaxation and creative inspiration, so there are books, magazines, DVDs for you to enjoy. The music system is brilliant as well, so please download the free Sonos app. to use.
We can give you advice on the best restaurants, shops, pubs, activities, etc. We both work full time, often with long hours, but we will endeavour to get back to you asap if there are any problems. We've included a very thorough booklet with information, emergency numbers, etc.
Thrupp is a very quiet lane, but we do have neighbours who like to keep it that way! Please respect and enjoy the peace and quiet the cottage brings you.
Please double lock the front door whenever you go out, and remove shoes when you come in.
Please don't go into the cellar as the steps are old and uneven.
Please do not leave candles or naked flames unattended in any room.
Please put recyclables in the recycling bin outside in the yard. And put all normal rubbish in the black bin, or take it with you. There are detailed recycling instructions in the cottage kitchen. If you don't recycle, it means our lovely cleaner Heather has to sift through your rubbish by hand. This may incur an extra charge.
Please leave the cottage as you would wish to find it.
Any breakages or damage, you must let us know.
No smoking, no pets, please ask us about babies and kids as we can help with cots etc.
Please, no dogs. We love dogs, but we have to consider the consequences of introducing an animal to an advertised 'pet free property'. It can be dangerous for those with asthma and allergies.
Please consider our neighbours when parking. The drive does not belong to us! There are plenty of parking spaces on the lane opposite the cottage.
Please do not remove anything from the cottage. This is our home. Bear in mind you may be removing a treasured gift or possession. We try very hard to make the experience pleasurable, so it's very upsetting if our trust is broken. We always make an effort to return things our guests have left behind, so please return us the courtesy.
Ooh, don't know how to describe myself, this is like being on a dating site! I am funny I s'pose, or so I'm told, and luckily that's my job too. I'm an actress/comedian/writer, but I crave brambles and canals and birdspotting. Hence small cotswold's stone cottage in the countryside which I'm gradually filling with great DVDs and tasteful pictures of David Bowie. An exercise in restraint, don't worry, the place is really lovely and not just a big shrine to Bowie. Not yet.
I like esoteric cult music comedy film literature, and I enjoy meeting new and interesting people - people are my fascination. I'm very sociable, and I think the house reflects me hopefully - warm and friendly (once you've got the log burner working), makes you feel at home, and creative. I bought the place as a creative space to write, so I hope it helps inspire you too.
I also love cooking. The kitchen is pretty well equipped because I just can't cope without the correct utensils. And everything is fairly luxurious in the house because I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Oh, that makes me sound a bit uptight. Okay, so I'm a messy perfectionist, who likes linen.
I used to travel a lot, until I entered the unstable ship that is 'acting', and now my wanderlust is satisfied by meeting other weirdos on set in London, whilst building a little nest in Stroud. It's only when you travel abroad you realise how 'English/British' you are. And I think I have tried to make this the quintessentially English cottage, with a twist! To fulfil my own fantasy of the perfect English lifestyle... So if that's your bag, you'll find that here. I think it's a prerequisite if your name is Alice that you're obsessed with Wonderland. And I've tried to add some quirks in the decor that surprise and delight! Hope you like!
You probably won't see us unless we've just been staying at the cottage, as we both work long and peculiar hours in London. But if we do coincide, we'd love to grab a pint/have a cup of tea, and share some of our favourite places in the area.
Airbnb is suggesting I tell you my life motto. Let me just say this.
'Where're you be
Let the wind go free
In church or Chapel
Let it rattle.'
p.s. Don't worry, the house smells lovely :)
