My father, Following old fashioned craftsmanship after a long and demanding successful career with DuPont, which he specialized in engineering of government classified projects (mainly heating and cooling systems for advanced power plants). With a desire for a change of pace favoring thoughts of a less demanding of lifestyle, He referred back to the tranquilly serene environment he had discovered after seeing a photo in a 20 year old travel magazine that he whimsically followed up, investigated, and fell in love with. Even with the rapid modernizing in attempt to catch up with the rest of the developing country, Maine has managed to keep its rugged state and natural beauty. The Denmark area especially. Yes, that one you seldom hear about with envy, yet never seem to get!- My sister, for guests whom haven't met her yet, is a very girly woman. She designed this bathroom keeping in mind the accommodations and style are for a woman to feel like a queen. After 50 years since its envisioning it for herself, she finally made it real. Your hosts, Mary Ellen & Rob at Dad's Favorite Place take great pride in making sure your vacation is a great one. Having grown up vacationing here since 1971 we know all too well how special it is here as are the memories you will make.
In the summer of 1964 my father had a business trip he needed to take to Portland Maine, and he wanted to take the
family. While researching my mother’s Maine vacationland travel books from where she used to work at the Newark
News (New Jersey), my brother Robbie-then 6-7 years old, pointed to a picture of a man with a beard and a pipe, standing
on the steps of a log cabin, and excitedly said" Mom I want to stay there. It looks like Abe Lincoln could have livedthere". So we went on an adventure and traveled north from Delaware to the beautiful State of Maine. There began our love affair with The Sebago Lake region, the extremely clean see to the bottom lake water, and the wonderful people who live and vacation there.
Our Dad loved it so much that in the fall of 1971 he and mom purchased a cabin 3/4 done on the shores of Moose Pond in Denmark, Maine. Forward another 21-22 years later, and my brother and I purchased the cabin right next door to them. The Lake front cabin, which can be your vacation home, was our parents, and it has a lot of happy memories.
Rob, my brother, lives in the cabin next door year-round, and is the caretaker for any help needed during your stay. The area offers a lot of sporting activities, all year long. Winter brings snow-skiing, snow-boarding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, ice skating, and ice fishing.
