The Creek-view Cottage is nestled into a hillside overlooking Deer Creek and a forested ridge. Hiking/biking trails are immediately accessible, as are private and public swim holes in the year-round creek. The "Swedish Cottage" is newly constructed and well-appointed. Ideally suited to a couple or solo traveler. You'll enjoy the tranquility and hum of being out in nature, and the convenience of being just 1.5 miles from the attractions of downtown Nevada City.

El alojamiento
Located on a 26 acre private property that's partly a managed nature reserve and partly a small farm, the Creek-view Cottage is a newly constructed, Swedish-inspired small cottage (or "Stuga") on land that hosts guests in other rental units. Don't expect to be "totally isolated", but we do aim for you to have a peaceful and relaxing stay primarily immersed in the sounds of the creek below and the wind in the conifer trees out your private back deck.

After you park, access to the Cottage is by footpath, probably 30-40 yards total, down on a do expect a little haul in and out of your accommodations.

The Cottage is newly constructed: You enter into the main leisure space, which includes a sitting room, a small (but fully equipped) kitchen, and a little bistro table for indoor dining. The sofa bed in this room can be converted into a single bed, but the size of the overall space is best suited to two guests total.

The center room serves as access to the bathroom, pantry storage, and "library", and is also furnished with a small work desk.

From there, is access to the bedroom, with a queen bed and other furnishings. There's another egress from the bedroom out onto the back deck, to take in the creek view and sounds of flowing water.

The Stuga, it's outdoor living space, and it's windows are all oriented down slope to the view and sound of the creek canyon. Note that upslope and "behind" the building, is another small rental unit we call the "Cozy Cabin." While they are proximate, the orientation of each is to maintain privacy for all guests. And, you may also have an opportunity to say "good afternoon" to a handful of other guests that you might see on the trails or down by the creek.

Dónde vas a estar

Nevada City, California, Estados Unidos

The large property is just outside a band of conservation lands outside of Nevada City, which are owned and managed by the City of NC, and the local Nisenan indigenous tribe. A network of trails (The Tribute Trails) leads out of downtown Nevada City, through these conservation lands, and onto easements onto this private 26-acre property. The Tribute Trail system includes 2 foot-bridges over Deer Creek; this property is just steps away from the "2nd bridge", a steel-span bridge that serves as a tribute to the Chinese Pioneers during the Gold Rush.
The "vibe" is farmhouse-nature out here, and note that Champion road is gravel, narrow, and bumpy. For this reason, we recommend guests try to arrive before dark (or it'll REALLY feel like you're "out there," by the time you arrive).

I had a "first career" as an environmental, economic justice and human rights advocate, leading conservation programs and river protection organizations in Marin County, the "Yuba Watershed" and internationally (primarily in Asia, Latin America and Africa). I've lived, traveled, worked and studied in dozens of countries and cultures.

Having returned to my "hometown" of Nevada City with my wife Tania and our teenage daughter, I now split my time between hosting guests, managing a flower farm, and volunteering with community organizations.

Having first hosted AirBnb guests when living in Berkeley years ago (when AirBnb was truly a "sharing economy" experience, sharing our bathroom and kitchen with visitors from all over the world), we've evolved our hospitality operation to include a number of distinctive and high quality accommodations in Nevada City and environs. Both in our own Victorian-era home in downtown Nevada City--and in partnership with friends and family who own and steward scenic agricultural, forest and stream-side properties outside of town--we aim to provide our guests with an exceptional and memorable experience while visiting Nevada City and South Yuba River.

Jason was raised in Nevada City and we bought this grand 1880 Victorian when it wasn't so grand in 2005, and have now put over a decade of love, care and resources into making it our family home to share with friends and guests.

We are water people who advocate for healthy rivers and social justice issues locally and around the world. For six years, Jason was director of the local river advocacy organization, SYRCL (including the Wild & Scenic Film Festival), and Tania was director of the Yuba Watershed Institute, founded by Gary Snyder and others.

In addition to these extensive relationships with local people and place, we both have also led international organizations: Tania primarily supporting popular education in Latin America and Jason's work with International Rivers was global in scope. Jason's attention is now focused on the home, garden, family, guests and local projects, while Tania works very full-time as a public policy facilitator throughout California.

We have a 15 year old daughter who enjoys pottery, poetry and just about any new and interesting experience. We love gardening, travel, books, exploring the natural world and adventures of all kinds.

While hesitant to claim fluency in any language, we can make conversation in Spanish, Russian, Italian and Shona, can read some French and have translation dictionaries for Swahili and Indonesian languages!
