This was a lovely house with beautiful views of the ocean with breeze throughout the day. It is centrally located and very quite in the area. Jossue and Lucely were perfect hosts and even brought us over some coffee when we first arrived. I would recommend this house and would love to stay there again in the future!

The studio is absolutely lovely! Everything you need for an authentic Isla Mujeres stay. The studio opens up beautifully to allow a constant Caribbean breeze. The bed is a full bed and comfortable for a couple. It was easy to shop and cook locally, or get a bite at many near by restaurants. The views are the best on the island. There is a dedicated kitchen and bathroom with an open floor plan. The back patio has a convenient laundry line with occasional iguana visitors that we loved.

The host and his wife met me and seemed pleasant enough, they explained I should never leave open any doors or windows due to a breakin with a earlier tenant. I did not have any real issues for about a month, but I was gone for the most part of the first two weeks of a planned three month stay. The problems started when the hot water went out, and it was fixed once and then broke again and was never fixed. I had to leave early due to that issue as well as ants that came and went as the pleased. Unfortunately, the host lives in Merida (about 6 hours away), and only provides excuses and delays when you tell him about the problems. The technical support personnel the host provided did not show up at all, even after I had called him and set up an appointment. The technical support person stopped answering the phone, and blocked my calls and I think the host told him not to bother with me. Airbnb was helpful with me getting out early, but could not help regarding the problems. I cannot recommend any stays here due to poor communication with host and the inability to get a hot shower for the last two weeks.

Gracias

Jossue's parents greeted me when I arrived at the house. I'm afraid I was more than a lot bleary after a grueling lead-up and long trip but I got to know them a bit better when they returned a week or so later. (They live about 3 hours away and Jossue even further). I speak almost no Spanish and Lucile almost no English, with Fernando in the middle, but I enjoyed chatting (words, gestures, a bit of (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) translate) with them for several hours. The have had a property management company to help when they aren't here (if minor repairs are needed). This apartment is small (the attached house is bigger) and simple but fits me perfectly. It might do for a honeymoon (or second honeymoon) couple if they are willing to be cosy (a full bed I think, definitely not a queen). What is stunning is the view. Not only are the pictures accurate, they underplay it considerably. The front and porch windows/doors look out onto the Caribbean a 1/2 block away. The sound of the waves is clear, as is the water. Sunrises (of which I must have 1000+ photos) are stunning every day, as are moonrises. Sunsets aren't bad, either, by the way. As for the house's location, I really love Isla Mujeres and this neighborhood, La Gloria, which is a residential area. It is quiet yet has what I need close by. The people are very friendly. And, yes, there really are taxi's by constantly despite not being in "El Centro" (downtown). The island is small and can be driven end to end in about 15-20 minutes. It is small enough that golf carts are everywhere, used as primary transportation. La Gloria is towards the southern end of the island but the farthest north shore, where the $$$ hotels are, is about 10 minutes and 50 peso ($3.30 US right now) away. (There are places to swim on this end, too, but not right in front of here -- too rocky and too rough). Beaches are public throughout Mexico so access isn't a problem generally. If you want an umbrella, you simply buy lunch or sodas and snacks and the restaurants provide it for you. Otherwise, put your towel down and enjoy. Some places try to limit entrance through their property unless you get an umbrella that day but they can't require it. The cost is minimal so it isn't a big deal, even on a tight budget. There is a snorkel/dive national park/reef and sculpture museum (built to take pressure off the reef so it isn't loved to death), both just off the island. Cancun is a short ferry ride. Isla isn't party central (not that there aren't a few places) but if you want white sand, warm water, and tropical fish, it's perfect. For the price of a night on the beach in a high-priced hotel, I have had a private apartment with kitchen and a deck overlooking the sea -- for a month....
