The house is very centrally located if you are planning to visit the south coast of Iceland; Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss, Dyrholey, Vik and Myrdals- and Eyjafjallaglacier.
We have all the necessary permits and licenses to run a guest house in Iceland.
The farmhouse was built around 1939 and has been innovated since then. The house is a two floor building.
There´s bed for 9 people. One king size bed (180 x 200 cm), one double bed (140 x 200 cm), three single bed (90 x 200 cm) and two single bed (80 X 200 cm)
Upstairs is a large room with one double bed and one single. There is a another room with two single beds. From the lounge upstairs is an exit to the balcony. The view to the mountains and the glacier from the balcony is stunning.
On the ground floor there is a spacious hall with a cloakroom, kitchen, dining area and a lounge with flat screen TV and a access to satellite TV. The kitchen includes two refrigerators (one big and one small), a dishwasher, toaster, microwave oven, stove, coffee maker and electric kettle.
On the ground floor there also two bedrooms, two showers and two toilets. In one of the bedrooms there is a double bed, and a wardrobe, in the other bedroom there are two beds.
All linen and towels are included. Also access to washing machine and dryer.
Free Wi-Fi internet. The land line phone is connected, but calling abroad, calling cell phones and calling 900 numbers is not possible.
The house is heated by a closed recirculating system which is heated by electricity. Radiators are in each room and on each radiator there is a control knop to adjust the heat in that room.
The house is rented for the minimum of two nights.
Route description - you drive along highway no.1 from Reykjavik, take a turn south at by-road no. 243, keep driving until you see a sign Midbaelisbakkar The Old Farm House. It is about two hours drive from Reykjavik
You can see the house and its surroundings in (website hidden) maps street view, look for "Leirnavegur".
In the vicinity of the house, you can find a variety of natural wonders such as Skogafoss, Eyjafjallajokull, Seljalandsfoss, Dyrholey, Solheimajokull, Thorsmork, the town of Vik in Myrdal and more.
Skogar Folk Museum is also nearby, providing a good insight into the past.
Nearby you can find a number of restaurants and a visitor s'center about Eyjafjallajokull eruption 2010.
The ferry to Vestmannaeyjar departs from Landeyjarhofn, just a 25 minutes drive from the house. In Vestmannaeyjar there´s new museum about the eruption in Vestmannaeyjar 1973. The museum has been called Pompei of the north.
Smoking is not allowed inside, only outside.
At departure, the dishes and the pots must be washed and the trash should be put in the bin outside. The floors should be swept if necessary.
Since there are a lot of horses grazing in the vicinity, the gate should preferably be closed at night and at departure.
There is a vacuum cleaner and a washing bucket available, if necessary during the stay.
The house is an old farm and the fixtures are related to the story of the family. Therefore, it is our friendly request that everything in the house should be treated with respect as this is our second home.
