We are Tony and Jessica Vanderveen and live on the property that The Lunenburg Lodge is located on. We have four children, two boys and two girls, born between 2010 and 2016. They are loud and messy, but we love them to bits and can't imagine our life without them.
Our hobby as a couple is to build things and renovate houses. We have lived in and renovated three houses, flipped a house, built our current house, and renovated a rental property. Our latest project has been to build this cabin in the woods.
So why did we decide to build a cabin in our backyard?
As a couple, our long term plan had been to continue purchasing rental properties, but when the pandemic started and the housing prices skyrocketed, we realized that plan was no longer feasible. We also realized that people are still looking to vacation, but are looking for options closer to home. And finally, we knew we needed a project to keep us busy while spending more time at home. So, the idea for The Lunenburg Lodge was formed.
My husband and I started building this cabin in the fall of 2020 to provide a country escape. Over the last while, we’ve realized that there are many amazing local amenities close to home, and we want to share these with our guests.
Lunenburg is a very small town located in the county of South Stormont. It is about an hour south of Ottawa, an hour west of Montreal, and 2 hours east of Kingston. South Stormont is a hidden gem within Ontario with the St Lawrence River only ten minutes away, plenty of outdoor recreational options, and an interesting history.
