This a quiet, large, well-equipped and comfortable self-contained apartment in our Victorian house, with easy access to Central London, Heathrow and Gatwick. Three minutes' walk to Tube, two small gardens, pretty residential area with cafés, restaurants, shops and park. No passing traffic. You can get to the centre of London in 15 minutes. As well as a spacious double bedroom, you have your own large sitting/dining room, kitchen, bath/shower room, and your own front door.

El lugar

In the lower ground floor of a Victorian artist's studio, full of character, this apartment has its own entrance, and is self-contained. It is incredibly quiet, as it sits on - and backs on to - a cul-de-sac, so there is no passing traffic noise at all, very rare in London. It is in a safe, pretty residential area with great transport links and makes the perfect base for exploring the city.

The apartment has a large double bedroom with an extremely comfortable, super kingsize coil-sprung bed with down mattress topper, and French windows on to the small back garden, where you can have coffee in the morning. (The bed is brand new, bought in October 2017, and is 6ft or 180cm wide - bigger than the one in the photo.) There are hundreds of books for you to read, on shelves and in the antique bookcase. We provide all bedding and towels, and can offer a travel cot and bedding for visiting babies and toddlers, as well as a high-chair harness.

The sitting room is also large, with a bay window, an eating area, and two sofas, one of which turns into another comfortable double bed. There is a TV with about 100 channels and a DVD player with loads of DVDs. Tell us what genre you like and we'll oblige!

The galley kitchen has a cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and all the pans and utensils you need. We give you coffee, tea, sugar, milk, olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper etc. In the bathroom, there is both a bath and a shower, as well as soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. We also provide a hairdryer and adaptors for your plugs, and an iron and ironing board.

The flat has original 19th-century wooden floorboards throughout, with rugs on top, and an original Victorian fireplace. It has antique furniture and loads of period character, but has only recently been redecorated, so is also in very good condition. It is warm in winter and cool in summer.

As well as the small back garden, there is a paved garden to the side of the house, where you can take deckchairs outside if the weather's good.

You have your own front door. The flat is covered by our house wifi.

We live in the (quite separate) house upstairs, but you can always call on us for help or advice. If we're not there, a very friendly neighbour will step in.

West Kensington is a gem of an area. It's very easy to get to from both Heathrow and Gatwick and has excellent Tube links. The streets are lined with tall, handsome mid-Victorian houses and trees. Just around the corner are a friendly café, a deli selling home-made Italian food, one of the best (and cheapest) Turkish restaurants in London, two great pizzerias, a Thai restaurant, two of the best (mid-price) Chinese and Indian restaurants, and two supermarkets - a Waitrose and a Tesco Express - selling all the food you need, open till 11pm. Five minutes' walk away is a lovely pub with a theatre. And the park is also five minutes away, with a swimming pool and tennis courts open to anyone and a huge children's play area (as well as a Virgin Active health club). Next to Barons Court Tube is a butcher which has been voted best small butcher in Britain, and a sweet French café. The river, with its famous Hammersmith pubs, is just 15-20 minutes' walk away, as is Holland Park.

Best of all, though, is the area's convenience. It is very close to the cool areas of Notting Hill, Chelsea and High Street Kensington, as well as the giant Westfield shopping mall. A ten-minute Tube ride takes you to the museums (Natural History, Science, V&A) or Knightsbridge. It takes 15 minutes on the Tube to Piccadilly, the West End and the theatre district. You can easily walk to Olympia exhibition centre or to the Queen's Tennis Club. Or you can hop on a Santander Hire bike from one of the many nearby docking stations.

Heathrow is just 30 minutes direct on the Piccadilly Line and the Gatwick Express train from Victoria is 15 minutes away on the District Line. The Eurostar terminal is 23 minutes on the Piccadilly Line.

We have two Tube stations close by: West Kensington (District) is just three minutes' walk away and Barons Court (Piccadilly and District) is seven minutes' away. Both take you straight to the centre of town. Without changing lines, you can get to Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, the big museums, the Tower of London, Bond Street, Piccadilly Circus, Soho, Harrods, Knightsbridge, St James's or Green Park. And you have the reassurance, on your return, that it's just three minutes' walk through safe streets from the station back to your peaceful London home.

There are also nearby buses to Kensington High Street, Notting Hill, Fulham Broadway and Hammersmith. And EasyBus airport buses from Gatwick stop in Lillie Road, 12 minutes' walk away.

We are very easy to find by car: drive straight into London from the M4 and we're just three streets away from the main road. There's ample parking outside the house, but you'll have to pay £2.20 an hour between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

My two teenaged daughters and I loved staying in Mary Ann's cozy apartment. It was absolutely perfect, just as described. Comfortable beds, plenty of linens, great shower pressure and closely located near the Underground are some of the best features of the place. I also want to mention the beautiful garden views and great neighborhood and of course our hosts who were so helpful and communicative. They responded quickly to any of our questions and gave many nice suggestions for our comfort and travel. We would love to stay here again!

I'm a journalist and my husband, Dai, plays guitar. We've lived in London all our lives and are keen travellers. We have two young adult daughters - one training to be an architect, one also a journalist - who sometimes travel with us. We are Airbnb hosts as well as guests, so we know how to make the process work well from both sides.
