A newly refurbished 1 double bedroom home for you to relax and unwind during your stay. It’s surrounded by fields and stunning panoramic views on the edge of a lovely hamlet in the heart of northern Shropshire. Well-equipped, open plan, modern kichen living room with wooden flooring and plenty of appliances to cater for your every need. To the outside, a private lawn area and patio with seating. Parking available. Plenty of local interests to explore with walks and cycling on your doorstep.

El alojamiento
This building was part of the main house, The Old Lodge which was built from local Grinshill stone in 1876. The Lodge was used as the main school for the surrounding areas until the early 1980s and has been a residential home ever since. The Privy, (meaning private), has been aptly named for its own little piece of history as it used to be the outside loos for the children attending the school! Don't let that put you off, there is not a hint of any such activity these days!!
We were recently visited by a passer-by who was keen to show his wife where he went to school. He stood in our living room overlooking the fields lost in a memory of a spitfire being shot down right in front of him. There is also a book that has been written about the antics of a pig theft and evacuee children who were sent to join the school from Liverpool. Well worth a light read for a small snippet of history in the area! A copy of this book can be found on the book shelves. So despite its origins, The Privy has been lovingly restored for your enjoyment.

Dónde vas a estar

Shawbury, Inglaterra, Reino Unido

There are a lot of activities, historical sites and museums coupled with vast amounts of glorious walking terrain and cycling options for a variety of abilities in and around the surrounding area.
In the immediate area, Oakgate in Ellerdine, has a well-stocked garden nursery with tea rooms and a local pub, Stanton upon Hine Heath also has a friendly pub with outside seating in their garden or Hodnet offers The Bear, a newly refurbished bar/restaurant. Hodnet Hall Gardens (from April to September) with fabulous formal gardens and tea rooms are also close by.
For a more formal occasion, you may like to visit Hawkstone Hall, 15 minutes drive away. Plenty of offers and events throughout the year. The Wrekin hill fort, again a short 15 minute drive, is a wonderful hill to go for a slightly more challanging climb with panaramic views to admire at the top. Half way up, or down, you can stop off for a quick cup of tea and snack if needed.
Shrewsbury is a 25 minute drive and offers great opportunities to explore this pretty market town with its abundance of bars, cafes and restaurants and independent shops, to appeal to all tastes. Aside from it being the birthplace of Charles Darwin, there are historical sites such as Shrewsbury Castle or the Dana Prison, offering fascinating tours and experiences. The Quarry (local park) is also well worth a visit with the river Severn and Dingle filled with beautiful floral displays to admire.
The large National Trust house in Attingham Park is also one for the list with its vast and unspoilt deer park, woodland walks, walled gardens, cafe and creative playground. The River Severn also provides water activities such as canoeing, boat races and coracle events to enjoy.
Blists Hill Victorian Town and its nearby creative tile museum in the historical town of Ironbridge is another must. Church Stretton (sometimes referred to as a 'mini Switzerland') has incredible hills and valleys to test those walking limbs with the reward of breath-taking views and its popular national trust cafe and shop. Lake Vyrnwy within easy reach offers canoeing, walking and cycling options amungst the tree lined edge with the odd picnic stop along the way. You can hire bikes to circle the entire lake. Lake Bala too is not far either with many more sporting activities for messing about on or in the water! Bridges pub near Stiperstones, offers fantastic home cooked food and in the summer season, live music. With the beach at Aberdovey or Barmouth in Wales, just a two hour drive or train journey, Liverpool, Chester, Manchester and Birmingham all within a 1.5 hour radius, you can rest assured of being spoilt for choice and needing to return to continue ticking off the list of activities and places to visit. There is an abundance of other options to explore and get your teeth into, but these are just a little taster of places and activities we have enjoyed over the years.
