It's a safe neighbourhood surrounded by families, childcare centres and schools. Only a 10 minute walk to San Cosme metro station which has a really great market there. Location is perfect as you have the option of 2 metro stations, Buena Vista shopping mall and markets in the streets. As for Manuel's place - it's minimal, clean and tidy. I was given alot of privacy and he was always there when I needed something.

The Neighborhood: St Maria la Ribera is a great colonia suitable for families and young travelers. There's a real community feel in the alameda and it's always busy with soccer players, joggers and dancers. This is not even 5 min away from the apartment. The Apartment: I stayed here for a month and it was perfect for that amount of time because my room was comfortable, with natural light and ample storage space. You can use the kitchen as you please, there's a good amount of space to store your groceries and space to cook. The Host: From the beginning Manuel made an effort to make me feel at home and make sure I had everything I needed. He helped me with tips about the city and the neighborhood, he drove me around and showed me all the cool places to get interesting groceries. At the end of my stay I had made a really good friend, we shared stories over some drinks or while cooking often. He's an extremely interesting person and always open to hearing about your day or your life story. I will definitely be seeing Manuel after my stay, to either play tennis as we did or have a drink and chat.

Manuel's place is functional and I would say is better suited for longer stays. Santa Maria La Ribera is an up-and-coming neighborhood so has an interesting mix of old and new Mexico. That being said, you get what you pay for. Overall, I would say I had an OK experience but would look elsewhere next time. Pros: -- the apartment is close to one of the main avenues-- Insurgentes where you can take a Metrobus to other places in the city and there's also a Wal-Mart, as well as a huge supermarket, shopping center, movie theater, etc. About 20 minutes to Reforma and aprox. 30 to get to Roma/Condesa where people tend to hang out. The neighborhood is up-and-coming. I felt generally safe even though Manuel advised against coming back to the apartment from Insurgentes by myself. I did and had no issue. Note: probably best not to walk around with large sums of cash/valuables in Mexico generally. --all the basic services are close by -- there is a bakery, convenience shops, fruit and vegetables shops, traditional street food, laundry, etc. --the apartment is pretty spacious, has a balcony and is generally quiet (except the construction noise). The room is a private room with a bathroom. -it has a washer (no dryer) and free weights. There is a gym nearby but the hours were somewhat tricky and I did not end up using it. Cons: -- There is no wi-fi in the room. Cell phone connection was not of best quality and some coffee shops in the hood had no signal at all-- if you need to make international calls for work like I do, this is something to consider. I worked mostly outside the house in Roma which is abt 30 min away by bus. -- I had to go out and buy my own bath towels, which is a bit ridiculous considering that even hostels provide you with ones. Also, an uncomfortable pillow/no fitted sheet on the bed --The apt was super freezing and there was construction right outside so lots of dust. I got very sick and had to eventually bring a heater to be able to sleep comfortably. Note: Mexican apartments typically don't have central heating. --The host mostly keeps to himself to the point where I felt unwelcome at his place.

I've enjoyed my stay here so much that I've decided to bother Manual for another week (or maybe two). The room is cozy, and I love that it has access to a balcony. Both nearby metro stops, San Cosme and Buenavista, are short walking distances from the apartment. The bathroom is clean, the kitchen is well equipped and the host is a cool guy to get to know. The neighborhood also has plenty of shops, restaurants and interesting sites to explore. I look forward to calling this AirBnB my home for the rest of my time in Mexico City. Gracias! :D
