There is one main rule here at Imaio that woman need to follow. Between the hours of 5-6, Nakamels are off limits and you must use the paths that go around them. This is because it is when the men get together and drink Kava. If you are male, you are warmly welcomed to come join us. All other times, woman are allow in the Nakamal. And finally Sunday No activities perform on that Day most people in the community observe Sunday as the day of Christians gather together for religious activities and you may be part also if you wish to Join them.

We stayed at Jeffet's place for 3 nights and it was nothing short of spectacular. Jeff and his family organized multiple tours and trips for us each day during our stay, our favourite by far was the cannibal show. The accommodation is basic, but that is to be expected as you are in a village in the jungle. If you are not the "camping" type, this is not the place for you. We also recommend bringing snacks either from Port Villa or the main market area once you land in Tanna. Of course, the highlight of our time in Tanna was mount yasur, absolutely incredible. We did the sunrise tour and I highly recommend that you do too. We had the entire Volcano to ourselves. The sunset tour on the other hand has upwards of 100 people crammed together making it a leas authentic experience. All in all, an unbelievable stay, you get to experience Tanna like a local and see a different side of the island that the average tourist does not. Thanks Jeff!

This is an excellent place to stay for anyone who wants to experience life in a remote village at the base of Mt Yasur. Jeffet and his wife Julie and their family are wonderful, generous hosts and Jeffet 's brother is a great upcoming tour guide. The bungalow is set in the family's beautiful garden with separate bungalows for the kitchen, bathroom/toilet, and kitchen. We stayed three nights we saw Mt Yasur, a stunning nearby waterfall, hotsprings, and wandered the fascinating and very friendly village.

We spent a magical time with our three little children in your authentic village! The rumbling of the volcano has shown us how small we are facing this Nature! You all in your village are in solidarity! It does good in our times when egocentrism and individualism are kings in our Western societies :( Thank you all Jeffet, Julie, Jeffet's mom, Anna, the little Francois who showed us the way to the river, Thank you for your sincerity, humanism, it becomes rare in our Western world The ecological and human nature was beautiful Thank you to Mount Yasur too

I would definitely recommend staying with Jeffet in Imaio village if you want to see the real life in Tanna island. If you are seeking for luxury 4* hotel you should stay away, but otherwise you will be welcome with big smiles. It is a lovely village close to Yasur volcano so you can see the night "firework" right from your bungalow :) Jeffet and his wife are always there to help you, arrange a transport or show you around. The cultural shows in Imaio village were really good and right in the village so we did not have to travel to other custom villages :) You should definitely consider to order your meal with them, because Jeffet's wife cooks wonderfull yummy dishes :D Hopefully we will come back one day ;)

Great and welcoming village. We had a new bungalow that was spacious and welcoming. This is the sort of place you book if you want to get an authentic feel of living in a Vanuatuan village that is a short drive to Mt Yasur Volcano. The village is a drive from the main town so bring additional supplies (food/water) on your way in. Jeffet was a gracious host and his family welcomed us as part of theirs and catered to our additional requirements. Make sure you have some activities booked in when your there to keep you busy. It's lights out pretty early so expect a early bed time too. There are plenty of paths and additional villages to explore. Western toilet and shower are also included. I would def recommend Jeffet, his family and the village as a overnight stay.

Jeffet and his family could not have been more helpful. They were very attentive to our needs, and put up with us even when we changed our minds which took considerable effort on Jeffet's part. He organised a sunrise trip to watch the fiery volcano, arranged a Kastum dance where we joined the Ni Vanuatu ceremony and started a fire by rubbing two sticks together. His sister accompanied us on forest paths to a waterfall where we swam. He also took us to a Jon Frum ceremony. We felt warmly welcome, not just by Jeffet but also by the whole village of Imaio which serendipitously translates as Your Home. The beauty of this village is its remoteness but with this comes basic facilities including a lack of running water and mains electricity and only one ATM on the other side of the island. We were enormously grateful that Jeffet gave us a list of prices before we arrived for budgeting as we would not have been able to get more money once in Imaio. An extraordinary place, we were privileged to be welcomed by this remote community.
