El lugar

What a wonderful construction this is! The Alachigh is used by a nomadic tribe, the Shahsavan, from northern Iran.

The Alachigh is set apart a little from the yurts and tipis and has its own elevated position with absolutely stunning views over the Teifi Valley, covering a distance of approximately 15 miles as the crow flies. There is a window which looks out over this view with an oak breakfast bar with bar stools to 'soak it up' first thing in the morning (or any other time of the day!)

The overall effect is a dome shape. There is a central crown - with locally sourced steam bent oak timbers curving from the crown to the oak floorboards. We have covered this wooden framework in a stone coloured 12 oz canvas and adorned the inside with a marquee lining, together with drapes - adding to the sense of luxury. All is home-made - Tony doing the woodwork and Fran the sewing of the canvas.

The Alachigh is 24' in diameter and comfortably sleeps six. There are four single pine beds and a double bed, all of which have comfortable covered foam mattresses and pillows. In the centre is a cast iron wood burning stove with a fitted fire-guard which keeps the Alachigh wonderfully warm. Sheepskins, rugs and cushions add that extra comfort. There are three bedside tables, a large shelving unit for storing food, pots, pans, etc, and a small sofa bed. We also supply a calor gas two ringed burner just in case its too warm for the wood stove and. You may have a basket of hardwood per day (if more than this is required we ask a small donation of £3 per basket). All crockery and cutlery is supplied. A large coffee table/chest contains plenty of extra blankets just in case it gets a bit colder at night. Lighting is supplied via LED lights around the crown and we also supply small rechargeable lanterns. Freshly laid eggs and honey are available (subject to availability).

Outside there is a large picnic bench and a fire pit area, together with a trivet if you'd like to cook over an open fire.

We stayed in The Alachigh at Larkhill in February 2017. Me and my 3 children (4,5 & 8) had a fantastic break and would love to go back. Fran and Tony were extremely welcoming and we really felt at home. Highly recommended!

We stayed in the Alachigh for two nights, with four adults and a toddler. We're moderately outdoorsy people who don't mind sacrificing some modern luxuries for the sake of being with nature and unplugging from demanding modern life. And for us, this was perfect. The Alachigh is…

We booked very last minute and arrived a few hours later. Fran had started a fire for us and was very accommodating and friendly. She was knowledgeable about the local area and pointed us towards a wonderful cliff walk. The place was idyllic and romantic.

Tony and Fran's eco-friendly family smallholding, with five different nomadic tents, is a wonderful retreat for family and couples.
