I stayed at Thomas house for more than a month, and I must say, it was the best accommodation in Mumbai that I ever had within my 15 trips since 2001. The place is exactly as described, it has a nice balcony with a view over open grounds towards Gilbert Hill, a very beautiful rock with a temple on top in Andheri. The room has a big wardrobe, a bed with a good mattress (not too soft), a desk, which was important for me to have, an air condition and a separate bath (not attached, but right across the door) with 24 hrs hot and cold water, western toilet and shower. The kitchen is fully equipped, modern, clean and mostly managed by the maid who comes 2 times a day. I had my own key, so could come and go 24 hrs, and even for my scooter there was free parking space in the compound. Of course all these points I had discussed with Thomas beforehand, and when I arrived, there were no bad surprises at all.
Thomas is a very welcoming, open person. Since I was very busy with my own work, I signalized him from the beginning that I was looking for something that allows me to have my private sphere and I wouldn't have much time to socialize. This was the most important part for me, because I had really bad experiences in the past in other places in Mumbai, where the host would enter my room without knocking, impose endless conversations on me and finally start insulting me when I wanted him to leave me alone. Things like these can easily happen in Mumbai, but definitely not with Thomas. When we first got in touch through AirB'n'B, I already got that vibe of a very reliable and responsive person, that he later turned out to be. Thomas totally understood my demand for privacy and let me be. Once in a while, when he had some friends over, he introduced me to them and invited me to hang out with them, which I did a couple of times and which was really nice. Thomas takes great care of the place, he keeps it very clean, and technically everything is well maintained. One day, late in the night the was no electricity in my room, so the next morning he got that fixed immediately.
Even though I didn't have much time to share with him, slowly me and Thomas came to know each other better, and finally became friends. When he told me that he might travel to Berlin this summer, I offered him to stay at my house, and my plan is that I will be more relaxed at that time and be able to show him around Berlin.
I can 100% recommend Thomas’ place to everybody who wants to stay in the western suburbs of Mumbai.
