Banksia Cabin is nestled behind the dunes, with its own private access to the beach and warm waters of the Swan River only metres away. It is the perfect location for sun bathers & swimmers and those seeking a cosy creative space.
Banksia Cabin is actually several cabins. It's charming, creative and cosy, reminiscent of childhood holidays and simpler times. The Main Cabin houses the living, dining and kitchen with a bathroom. There's a gas heater inside and at the flick of a switch it looks just like a wood fire, without the trouble of firewood.
The Bedroom Cabin is situated a couple of meters along the deck from the Main Cabin, with shutters and portholes, and is divided into 2 areas and ideally sleeps 2-3, either in the sublimely comfy queen bed or double.
I'm a bit old fashioned so there aren't any electric blankets, although there is a heater in the bedroom if required and several hot water bottles for cold tootsies.
There are two new bathrooms, one with a loo and a cast iron bath, which is situated inside the Main Cabin. The other bathroom is accessed via a timber decked walkway from the Main Cabin and contains a shower, loo, washing machine and trough sink. So please note that there are no en suites and that a trip to the loo in the night involves leaving your cabin. You will be blown away by the stars so it's really quite nice.
The kitchen area is compact but there are very good quality pots and pans, utensils, cutlery and crockery. The range has gas hobs and an electric convection oven and there is a long rustic table to sit around inside, with candles in bottles to give atmosphere. I've planted some herbs in barrels outside so please use what you need in summer.
A toasted sandwich maker is useful for lunches and there is a toaster, stove top espresso pot and a stick vacuum for little messes.
Fridge space is adequate but not huge, so a midweek shop for week long stayers might be a good idea.
The design of Banksia Cabin is to maximise your relaxation by interaction with the outdoors, a comfortable step up from camping.
There are simple gas barbecue facilities near the campfire and a table and benches with umbrellas for shade.
If you need to do a load of washing, feel free. Washing powder is provided and there's an inside clothes rack for smalls and a huge Hill's Hoist clothes line outside.

Situated on 9 Mile Beach, long beach walks are essential, as is swimming in the surf on the main beach and in the Swan River, only a couple of hundred metres from your door.
There are fishing rods provided, so I suggest you pick up some bait in Swansea and head for the river mouth for Bream, Flathead and Cocky Salmon. I've provided some deck chairs and an eski, so take these along.
When the surfs up, 9 Mile Beach is great for boogie boarding and there are 2 for your use. For serious surfers, the reef beyond the sand bar is a famous surf spot when conditions are right.
The rural township of Swansea is 20 minutes away for shopping, a meal out and the golf course.
Local vineyard cellar doors, such as Milton, Springvale and Gala are just north on the Tasman Highway, at Cranbrook.
I've provided a library of short stories, classics, decor magazines and interesting coffee table and cook books, as well as maps and brochures to help you get around.
I have also provided art materials if the environment spurs the creative muse in you.
Atención a los huéspedes
I don't live on the premises but I'm a phone call away if you have any problems.
I probably won't meet you and this is in some way intentional, as I want you to feel as if the cabin is yours for a few days.
If you tell me which direction you are coming from I can make some suggestions about what you might like to see/do en route to Banksia Cabin.
Otros aspectos destacables
As the cabin's water supply comes either from the artesian bore or from the sky via tanks, it is recommended that you drink the bottled water provided and boil water for cooking.
Banksia Cabin is a beloved family home so I hope you will treat it with respect and care.
1. No smoking in any of the cabins but outside is fine of course.
2. As this is a low rainfall area, please be water wise and only take short showers.
3. If you play any of the many games provided, please make sure that all the pieces and cards are returned to the box.
4. Please wash up dishes and pans before you leave and wipe the stove top.
5. Please respect local outdoor fire restriction before lighting a campfire as this is a high fire danger area. There will be fire risk signs on Dolphin Sands Rd.
6. Please return axes, rakes and marshmallow forks to where you found them to prevent excessive rust.
I've worked my way around the UK and parts of Europe and decided to settled back in my birthplace for its natural beauty, clean air, laid back people and ease of lifestyle. I purchased this beautiful block of land on the East Coast of Tasmania in order to give my sisters and friends somewhere to come to, to relax and enjoy the beach and river. I've spruced up the rough collection of ex-Hydro huts and my collections now adorn the walls.
The Swan River has been the scene of my happiest childhood memories; building rock bridges over rapids, painting each others bodies with the ochre that washed down and midnight skinny dipping. I hope that you and your families can experience some of the raw feelings of bliss and freedom that I have felt here, reading, swimming, making and stargazing.
