El lugar

Villa Benedetta is a beautiful historic residence that has been for many years the beating heart of the Folonari family, a renowned name in the Italian wine panorama. Dating back to the early 1800, the villa is located at the center of the family’s agricultural holding that is currently producing excellent internationally known wines.

After a long and thorough renovation of the villa in 2014, the owners have decided to convert it into a vacation home considering its overall wonderful characteristics, elegance and charm. The spectacular typical Tuscan surroundings are perfect for excursions either on foot, on a bike or for horseback riding.

The park of the villa is immaculately kept and features furnished shade areas dedicated to just relaxing while enjoying the view on the stunning Tuscan landscape or al fresco dining (there is a new barbecue and a covered gazebo that sits up to 18 people).
The private swimming pool (size 40 x 16 feet) comes with a changing area, full bathroom with shower and a dedicated wi-fi internet connection.

Location: the villa is located in Greve in Chianti, which is considered the “entrance gate” into the Chianti region. The beautiful main square of Greve, Piazza Matteotti, is the focal point of the town and can be easily reached from the villa on foot (about 10 minutes walk), by bike, or by car (3-4 minutes drive).
At the Piazza Matteotti there is several excellent restaurants such as the Osteria Mangiando Mangiando, the Bottega del Moro or the Osteria del Chianti Classico as well as many other typical grocery stores, Artisan shops and the famous Antica Macelleria Falorni (a Tuscan butcher that has been in the same spot since 1729). Nearby the square there is also a furnished supermarket.
Walking distance from the villa there is a bus stop where it is possible to take several buses to Florence or other nearby locations such as San Gimignano or Siena.

Description of the interiors: The villa features 9 large charming bedrooms (all with the characteristic high ceilings) and 8 bathrooms in total.

Hands down the best airBnB I have ever stayed at. The villa was stunning - almost unreal, Iolanta was attentive, kind, and a wonderful cook for our daily breakfasts, and the location couldn't have been better for daily outings to places like Cinque Terre, Florence, and Siena. We only wish it would have been nicer weather so we could have used the pool and played on the grounds!

We just came back from a wonderful stay at the villa. It is magnificent. We were greeted by Ms. Iolanta and she showed us around. We were 8 adults and 2 babies. Everything is in excellent condition. The beds are so comfortable and the bathrooms are up to date. There are several rooms to socialize in or just relax. The grounds are beautiful with a great patio to relax on. The views of the Tuscan countryside are breathtaking and seemed timeless. The town of Greve is close with great restaurants and grocery store. We had a delicious meal prepared and served our first evening. We highly recommend a stay at the villa.

Villa Benedetta was the most wonderful place in the world! We had the most relaxing weekend ever staying at Antonella's home. Antonella was very easy to communicate with to arrange for the villa and had tons of tips and advice for travel, activities and more. Iolanta, the housekeeper at the villa, was incredibly helpful too! She bought us groceries, helped clean and was incredibly hospitable. The villa is located about a 15-20 minute walk up a (VERY STEEP) hill from Greve. Car is recommended, but not necessary, we did not have one, and we survived (though carrying groceries was difficult). The bus system from Florence to Greve also wasn't bad - about 50 minute ride. Once at the villa everything was amazing! Huge rooms with giant tempur-pedic beds, a bathroom for everyone, huge dining room, amazing patio in the back and a kitchen that was easy to cook in. When you step outside you are surrounded by beautiful views of mountainous tuscany! You can walk through the different vineyards and explore greve and montefiorale. It was so so wonderful! Thank you for such a great stay - I hope to some day return to Villa Benedetta!!

I stayed at the villa for 8 nights with two different groups of travelers. The villa is beautiful and very well appointed. Lolanda the housekeeper was wonderful and took great care of us. A few things to note: ---The listing says the villa is an easy 10 minute to town -- that might be true ONLY for those with a high level of fitness walking very quickly. It is uphill from the town so walking back is not pleasant. We also had rain so walking was not an option. It is also very difficult and expensive to arrange taxis in Greve. Having your own transportation is imperative. We managed because Lolanda was gracious with assisting us... but in my opinion the villa is not exactly an easy walk to town. ---Two bedrooms upstairs share a bathroom and that bathroom only has a tub. For a high-traffic bathroom, this wasn't convenient, so we were left sharing a few showers which wasn't convenient. Plus we had a hot water problem on the first floor meaning even less available full bathrooms. I recognize this might simply be a different preference - but for my group of Americans, a shared bathrub isn't ideal. ---We had dinner at the villa one night and it was lots of fun to dine there together. ---Breakfast at the villa (which you may add) is very basic. Depending on your group's preferences, you may wish to add more items to the standard breakfast of toast, yogurt, and fruit. ---There is heating and a/c in the bedrooms but the common areas were very cold. I would recommend not visiting the villa after September as the beautiful building if of course hard to heat and once the suns goes down it is very chilly. This is a special place and my group enjoyed it. There were a few glitches as mentioned above but it is wonderful to be near Greve and Montefioralle. The villa was impeccably clean and immensely atmospheric.

Respuesta de Villa Benedetta Sas:
First of all I would like to thank you and your group very much again for staying at the villa, you have been really wonderful tenants to host!... Regarding your notes: - I find the walk into town to be very pleasant, since you are waking along the typical wonderful vineyards of the area and I personally do it regularly when I am staying at the villa (it usually takes me about 10 maximum 12 minutes). Most of my guests walk into town and back all the time and are very happy to do so… In any case I normally recommend all of my guests to have a rental car, especially since it makes it easier to reach the various points of interest in the area. - Regarding the shared bathroom, I have never actually received a complaint but I will look into it to make sure the villa’s standards and my guests' experience are constantly improved. - The villa has a perfectly functioning heating system throughout (so not just for the bedrooms). As stated on the villa’s house rules it is possible to start the heating anytime, at a daily fee. Since the weather was actually particularly warm I though you were fine with the villa’s temperature (also because you have not mentioned to me that you felt cold in some of the rooms). October is actually a great month for being in Greve, probably one of the very best, since it represents the grape harvest season not only in Greve but in the whole Chianti Classico region. The villa is equipped with both A/C and heating system so it is absolutely comfortable throughout the year, independently from the season. - For your information the property has been passed down from generation to generation and the villa was built more than 200 years ago. It has been extensively renovated in 2014 in order to make the villa as much welcoming and comfortable as possible, while fully preserving the ancient feel and the beauty of a Residence of other times…

Our visit exceeded expectations!! The Villa is truly a special place and we were discretely looked after to make sure our trip was as special as possible! The villa is located about 5 minutes from the beautiful wine-oriented town of Greve-in-Chianti- and provides ample opportunity to learn about the regional food and wine. The Villa is located at the top the hill and has beautiful views from every vantage point. Architecturally is is a truly special place-- high ceilings and huge rooms. Our group was 9 adults - 3 couples and 3 singles. The large number of bedrooms and bathrooms made it really easy for everyone to have their own space. Antonella and Lolanda assisted with dinner reservations, wine tasting, and transportation back and forth from Florence so we could do a late night. We arranged for Lolanda to cook dinner for us twice - once a sit down- and the second time a cocktail style evening. She is an amazing cook and simply a lovely person-- all ingredients were fresh and local- some from the garden! Lolanda brought in two lovely assistants to help with cleaning and cooking as necessary. There are countless wonderful restaurants in town, plus amazing enotecas and cafes-- and the week flew by. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the pool area, we spent countless hours laughing and enjoying local wine in the back-yard over looking all of Tuscany! A few nights we cooked at home-- the kitchen is one of the smaller rooms-- but has a big island, dishwasher and is well equipped. From the Villa we did some lovely hikes- to town, to Montefioralle--- and some fantastic driving adventures. Antonella and her team were always very responsive and being in a historic family-owned Villa is an amazing experience. Also to note- the Villa has a washer, and dryer (some of us had been traveling a while prior to the Villa stay - so this was a very nice thing). During our time there our group spent the days: doing day trips (Seina, San Gimignano, Florence), wine tasting (in the cave at the Family winery and in town at the enotecas), relaxing at the pool, hiking, golfing, shopping, laughing, talking, relaxing (there were countless areas for group to be together or for individuals to have quiet time). There is a nice grocery store (COOP) and the Butcher is a must visit (don't miss the cheese cave!). The house is full of history--we all enjoyed our stay very much and appreciated the hard work of Antonella, Lolanda and Lolanda's crew! Thanks also to Paola at the Family Winery--who walked us through two tasting- explaining wine making, soil, opening our eyes to the marvels of Brunello and charming each of us thoroughly!

Everything was very good. Everyone at the villa was very hospitable and all my guests had great time! The villa is big and very clean. I am very sensitive to smells and this one smelled very pleasant which is unusual for historic places :) I really recommend to stay at Villa Benedetta if you want to visit Tuscany.

Wedding + staycation (4 nights) with family and friends (18pax): Villa - Absolutely breath taking. Situated on top of a hill, a lot of privacy but very easy access to Greve city centre for grocery and some shopping as well as other vineyards for wine tasting tours. Villa is as beautiful as the photos shown if not more amazing. Host & staff - Antonella was very friendly. Greeted us as we arrived and gave us a detailed tour around the house. Yolanda and other villa staff were more than helpful. They kept the villa very clean with all the essentials we needed. All in all, they were very helpful and thoughtful. Facilities - all the rooms were very clean, well kept and big including those with 2 beds. All bathrooms were well equipped, modern and very clean. Back garden outdoor dining area was a very good alternative for dinner if weather permits. We also used the barbecue and played table tennis. In general the villa had lots of different spaces and rooms for relaxing. We cooked in the kitchen quite a lot. All the basic ingredients as well as pots and pans are fully equipped including a fully functioning oven. Meals - on our wedding day, we had Antonella and her team prepare lunch and dinner. It's a great option if you want to relax and not worry about cooking. The team put together a nice menu for us to select prior to our arrival. Tables were set beautifully with wine served. Wedding - whether it's for vacation or a big event like our wedding, it's the perfect location. Not only is the villa spacious, there are lots of beautiful spots within and in the garden for photos.
