Light and open, beautiful, simply furnished with period furniture for the most part, post and beam, irregular pine floors, mostly new appliances, rural atmosphere, not luxury (if you are into that), convenient to lakes, hiking, skiing, Breadloaf, Middlebury, Brandon, Long Trail. Wifi, but no TV.

El lugar

This is a very old house with creaky, irregular, wide pine floor boards and a telescope view of the Adirondacks. It is set back from a dirt road. It has been kept up or improved in various ways by its occupants for close to 200 years and rooms are now open to each other on the ground floor, making for a large open feeling. Cows are occasionally heard mooing in the fields, depending on the season.
In the southwest bedroom are a double bed and a twin four poster bed. The second bedroom contains a double futon and a twin four poster. Down the hall the third, smaller bedroom has a futon that can sleep two and a single sleigh bed. This room is connected to the fourth, which has a single four poster.

Disponible para huéspedes

Guests may use the original house including living and dining area, kitchen, bedrooms and baths. Linens are supplied. There is a place to sit outside on the former porch site under mature maple trees.

Atención a los huéspedes

We will greet you as close to your arrival time as is convenient for both of us, or we will give you instructions as to how to get in. Then as soon as possible we will arrive to explain any unclear details of operation. We are generally next door and can be reached by phone or text, or you may ring the doorbell.

Otros aspectos destacables

The house is heated with an effective wood stove and an oil furnace. Old fashioned ventilators allow heat to rise to two of the second floor bedrooms so in winter be prepared with a warm bathrobe and slippers. Supplemental electric heat is available if needed. Air conditioning is not central but is generated on the first floor. There is no TV. There is a large shower with a seat but no bathtub.

The farmer will need access to the barn, so please don't park in such a way as to block that part of the driveway. If you have children with you, attend to them age appropriately on the farm.
No smoking inside and if you must smoke outside, please do so in a safe place and dispose of cigarette buts safely.

Sophia greeted us when we arrived - she’s a very kind and thoughtful host. She lives in a separate wing of the house and if you need her help, she is easy to reach. The house is very nice. Conveniently located to the green mountains and the small town of Brandon for groceries and restaurants.

Wonderfull old house with modern touches, took my teenage grandkids to my home town and the culture change started with this farm house. The donkeys, cows and dirt road were a perfect setting, Sophia was most attentive and gracious. I highly recommend the old farm house for a longer stay with family group. Incredible value.

Sophia made our arrival late at night very easy and left milk in the fridge for morning coffee. The farmhouse is almost 200 years old and yet open on the first floor, which is an unexpected delight. Evenings around the woodstove were delightful, as were walks along the dirt road. And at night, there is not a city noise to be heard -- and a sky full of stars. We had a great weekend exploring the area and Sophia was very accommodating about a change in our dates.

The farmhouse was fantastic. We stayed here as part of a family reunion-- others stayed at various places in the area. Perfect for a large group. We loved waking up and having coffee with the view from the kitchen, walking in the gorgeous grounds. The house itself very comfortable-- Vermont chic, with a great mix of modern art, antiques, and an easygoing flair. Fully equipped with everything you need. Wish we had more time to cook in the spacious kitchen.

I lived in Sophia's home for 6 weeks and loved it! The house is large and beautiful, and I especially loved sitting at the table on the patio in the backyard. The house is about 20 min from downtown Middlebury - convenient for going out to eat, buying groceries etc. but feels secluded because it is on a dirt road and there are cows and sheep in the fields around the house. Beautiful location--if you're looking for the "real Vermont" look, you'll love it. It's also a 5 minute drive to a lake that offers swimming and 10 min to a network of trails in the woods. Sophia is warm and inviting and always made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend!

Sophia came over and introduced herself which was very nice. She asked us if we had everything that we needed. The description was fairly accurate.

Respuesta de Sophia:
Hi Lois, Thanks so much for staying here. It was nice to meet you four grandparents of a lucky child. And thank you for your suggestions. I hope you found adequate bed covers upstairs! Did you try turning up the thermostat? I have upgraded the Airbnb description to explain the old fashioned oil heating system which is not central, but relies on heat rising to the degree that it can through floor ventilators. We are doing our best to leave the smallest possible footprint while maintaining the character of the house, and are considering a cold-climate heat pump. That may be more efficient with our solar panel, but will still depend on the natural process of heat rising. We have always lit the wood stove at night in winter to avoid burning more oil than necessary. I appreciate and will follow up on the other suggestions, too. Happy New Year to you and your husband, and come again any time. Sophia
