First, we strive to make sure that all of our guests have a wonderful experience. If you read our other reviews, you will see that we accomplish that.
This guest, however, was trouble from the start. The reason she is so negative is not because the place is so terrible, but because of other issues, such as the fact that we caught her trespassing (that is, she moved into the unit the day before she was scheduled, didn't inform us, and brought 6 persons, instead of the four that she had in her booking. We showed up at the apartment at 8am the morning of check in for a last minute inspection, as we always do, to make sure everything was in order. What we found was the guest, already in the apartment sleeping on the couch. We asked what she was doing there, as check in isn't until 3pm. She said that she had gotten there that morning, but our good neighbors and the guest in the other apartment next door, confirmed that she had gotten there the day before, as we suspected. When we spoke to the husband separately, he confirmed that they were there the day before. Guests are also supposed to call us when they have arrived. She never did this, because she checked in the day before and didn't want us to know that. Eventually, working thru AirBnb, she agreed to pay for the extra night, meaning that what we were saying was true. But, At this point, the trust factor was gone. We caught this person in a lie, but her defense was to lash out at us instead. If the place was so terrible, why didn't she request a refund and move out? We kept asking why she didn't call us when she arrived as was clearly stated in our direct email communication with her, and a welcome card that is on the table as you enter the apartment. She kept skirting the issue and wouldn't answer. And was very, very nasty.
If Anne had bothered to read our listing, she would have known ALL about the place. But she didn't. She said her daughter had booked it for her. Everything about our place is clearly stated, with pictures. Please see for yourself.
The reason the bathtub was clogged was from 6 people's hair getting caught in the drain, as can sometimes happen anywhere.. We always ask guests to call us when there is a problem. We live 10 minutes away and are always on call.. Again, Anne didn't call us about the problem because if we came over to fix it, we would have discovered the 6 people staying there, as confirmed by our neighbors. Instead, she asked where the plunger was, and apparently fixed it herself. Takes 2 hours to drain and doesn't call us to fix it immediately.? Really?
Another issue was the 5th (and 6th) person). She claimed 4 persons on her reservation. When caught, she tried to make a reservation change with AirBnB after the fact for a 5th person., but did not include the extra night fee for the 5th guest, We sent a revised reservation with the fee, which she agreed to pay (again, proves we were correct), but then called AirBnB to revise it to 4 nights. Again, our neighbors confirmed 6 people the entire time they were there (8 nights), but we didn't press that issue any further.
The front door has an electronic dead bolt and the rear doors have standard door locks. It is very safe and no one jimmied any locks. BTW, Anne lost? a set of our our apartment keys, replaced them with a different set of keys and then denied losing them. Our neighbors again confirmed that she had said to them that she lost a set of key. She had asked if they had seen them in the grass.. She denied losing them to us, but because at this point we couldn't trust her, we were forced to replace all of the locks in the apartment after she left, because we were concerned about the safety of our next guests.
Anne's response to any stressful situation is to fabricate and try to talk her way out of it, instead of admitting the truth.
She mentioned that she owns a B&B on Cape Hatteras. Well, we went to her listing on Trip Advisor to look at user comments and what did we discover-- Direct quotes- from Trip Advisor- "Buyer beware"-The location and house is good, but please be careful. The owner of this establishment is very deceiving and will over charge and be very NASTY with you, if she gets busy and forgets to prepare your rental or any other difficult situations come up on her end. Again, great rental if everything goes well but please please tread carefully.
"Not a good experience" - I was going to book last year for our family's trip to NC and decided to cancel a month ahead of the trip because the accommodations did not fit our needs. I nicely told Anne I was canceling and she was absolutely nasty and hateful. She sent me several disrespectful messages because I cancelled (mind you I have never met this woman in my life and only talked to her briefly about her home. She was not professional and took the cancellation as a personal attack, which it was not whatsoever. We just ended up having to find a location closer to a wedding we were attending"
Granted, she has good reviews as well, but this shows the type of person we were dealing with
Please visit her listing on Trip Advisor for confirmation-Sea La Vie Bed and Breakfast Salvo, NC
Her professional accusations are completely unfounded. We were always professional, but she became very agitated. The house was completely clean, as always. There were no toilet paper pieces anywhere !!
Check in procedure is quite clear. Had she called us, as requested, we would have again explained everything.
Regarding checking in early, Anne is again fabricating. What our communication to her said was that if we are finished preparing early, we will let you know that day so that you can check in sooner, not that you have carte blanche to arrive anytime you want. ANNE DOESN'T READ, she just does what she wants. In fact, we received a complaint from one of our neighbors that Anne and one of her guests entered the neighbor's apartment without permission and was standing in their living room, uninvited, looking around.
We send driving information, check in information, house rules and check out info in advance to all of our guests. She confirmed to us that she received it, lost it and would we send it again, which we did. There is simply no excuse for her not knowing about our place. If you are lost, call us, if you have a problem, call us, if you have a question, call us. There is also a large sign outside the apartments with our contact information.
Mold issue is completely fabricated. There was one very tiny black spot on a grout joint in the shower, which, in order to defend herself, she blew way out of proportion. If you have a terrible mold issue, you move out, or discuss it with us, not stay there for 8 days with 6 people in a space not meant for more than 5. Anne had another large group staying at Crescent and therefore she decided to stay an extra week. That is why she rented there, not because of a non-existent mold issue.
So what we have here is a classic case of projection. Anne accuses us of the very things she is guilty of. She is arrogant and condescending. She has serious anger management issues and appears to shows signs of being a pathological liar. She will do or say anything to get her way and to keep herself from looking bad and make the other party appear to be the bad one.
I could go on and on refuting her other claims, but I think you get the picture.
It is truly unfortunate that this situation has spiraled out the way it has.
Please read our other reviews for an accurate picture of staying at our place and then judge.
