El lugar

This home has the rustic feel of a real Vermont barn but all the modern amenities of home. The property affords total privacy on it's 6.5 acres, so you can just relax and enjoy being in a beautiful setting. There is one master bedroom. The other bed is a spring-mattress futon in the large loft area. It offers semi-privacy. There is a small back room and a plug-in remote controlled air mattress that can be used as a private sleeping area.

The neighborhood is in a rural setting on a private dirt road off of a quiet dead-end public dirt road. The farm where this house originally came from is just up the road and sells maple syrup and u-pick blueberries. However, a 5 to 10 minute drive brings you to all the shops and restaurants in Bennington.

Having a car is highly recommended. There is a small airport in nearby Bennington, and a major airport about an hour away in Albany, New York.

Southwestern Vermont is full of outdoor activities including hiking, biking, rafting, fishing, hunting, and skiing. The geography is mostly mountainous, forested, and rural, with classic New England towns and small farms throughout.

Owner does not live on site, but can be contacted 24/7 with questions or problems.

The home is very clean. Lars is a great host! He gave very thorough instructions on the home, neighbors and local places. The property is very peaceful and quiet. You will not regret renting this home. We will definetly rent this home again on our next visit.

The perfect spot for a family with young kids! Picturesque rural Vermont. My wife and I have two toddlers and an infant. We were looking for a house and yard that they could run around without having to worry about being run over by traffic or drowning in a lake. On this, the house completely satisfied our needs! The barn is totally secluded in the woods--no other houses are visible from it. The trash pickup can't be seen from the house, and there is no mail delivery to the house, so there is zero chance of being surprised by a car pulling up into the driveway that you weren't expecting. Yard is beautiful and well maintained. We enjoyed many meals on the picnic table out front, and the occasional walk on the paths through the property. We even took a walk up the road to buy maple syrup from Wing Farm. Inside, the barn is rustic with a hodgepodge of little details that make it quirky and special. Lots of old post-and-beam featured throughout. Every day I was there, I found something new and interesting to look at. The living spaces are much more spacious than the pictures make it look. The bedroom is cozy but roomy. Living room is large, with very comfy couches. Kitchen has a nice vintage gas stove with new countertops and large window over the sink. Bathroom has a nice wooden floor and the view from the tub is fantastic. The loft is huge and could be a living room in its own right. It has a TV and futon, which we used for playing videogames after the kids went to sleep. Both the loft and dining area feature stereos with large speakers that can be used for music loud or quiet. Speaking of the loft, the only thing we weren't fond of was the spiral staircase leading up to it. It's incredibly steep and narrow. My wife and I had to go slow and steady when descending, even though we're in our early 30s. An elderly person could not use it. I will say that my three-year-old son had no problem ascending and descending. I recommend the loft as a place for kids to enjoy. It's an ideal place for persons aged 5-17 to sleep or enjoy. Lars was awesome about answering every question we had about the place in a very timely manner and even walked me through lighting the stove over the phone. Overall, we all loved our stay at the barn and highly recommend it to others.

This place was amazing! The pictures don't do it justice. Close to Bennington, but quiet and relaxing. The claw foot tub was a treat! Lars was great with communication. Our son enjoyed the loft and our master bed was super comfortable. Also nice to have a kitchen so we didn't have to go out to eat for every meal. We loved the peaceful setting, and had a nice fire in the fire pit in the back yard one night. One of my favorite places I've ever stayed!

The pictures almost don't do this place justice. It's absolutely stunning! The wooded areas around the residence are gorgeous and well-maintained, with lots of hidden benches and sitting areas and fire pits. It's an adventure just to hang around the property! The barn itself is beautiful and well-restored. There are so many wonderful furniture pieces. We really loved the art around the place as well, and the fire pit was really fun. Lars was always available and kept an extensive manual to everything we needed. Thank you so much! We were lucky to come on Memorial Day weekend and attend the Bennington Mayfest nearby, so if you're in town in May definitely check that out. Bennington and Shaftsbury are great Vermont towns and everyone is very friendly.

The converted barn was perfect for our stay in Vermont. It was convenient, easy and offered us just the privacy we were looking for. The outdoor spaces were wonderful and we even enjoyed a nice bonfire on our last evening... terrific!

This experience was incredible. The living space was comfortable and home like. The bed was very comfortable. Lars was very accommodating in every way. He responded back to any questions immediately before our stay. Check in and out was also very simple. We wish we could have stayed longer. The trials and yard are magical. We enjoyed walking the trail and imagining all the fun that must have been had there. We wanted a private escape for a night and that's exactly what we got. The space feels like it's miles and miles away from everything. I can't say enough about it. If you are looking at this space, don't look any further and book it. You won't be disappointed.

Lars is a high school biology and chemistry teacher who loves his children, skiing, and is getting into kite surfing. Kristen is his wife, teaches electronic engineering at a community college, loves wind surfing, and is getting into skiing. They have owned this converted barn since 2003 but didn't start renting it out as a vacation home until a few years ago. So far, all of their experiences renting the home have been positive and have enjoyed getting to know a lot of interesting people. As hosts, they will be helpful with any questions you have (you can call them day or night), but will leave you to enjoy your experience in peace.
