Unfortunately, the room we were given was in quite bad shape (especially considering it was $180 per night). The room had stains on the carpeting, randomly painted areas on one wall (as if they were working on repairing something and had not finished), a less than idea bathroom (very small, and the shower had some stains), and a few other dusty & unclean areas. We decided after seeing the room that we would not stay, and that we would continue our drive home (we had stopped here on our way home from Canada). When we told the front desk that we would not be staying because we had expected a much higher quality room, we were immediately offered a room upgrade. The person at the front desk was very kind and wanted to be accommodating. However, we felt that other rooms might be similarly run-down, and after a 2 week road trip we were ready to be home. We very much appreciate the Castine Inn trying to accommodate us. I would say that if you are expecting a more "luxury" or well kept room, that this is not a good place for you to stay. I assume the cost was because of where the Inn is located, which was a very cute sea-side town.
