This is the oldest guesthouse in Dambulla and makes everybody feel at home. It has the charm of an old cottage and is built in a typical Sri Lankan style. It is under new German/Sri Lankan management and our lovely Pink Room has a private bathroom.

Our Oasis Guesthouse - also known as "Oasis Tourist Welfare Center" - is the closest accommodation to the Dambulla Rock Temple. It is located right opposite the Big Golden Buddha and from our property you look right into Buddha's face.

This guesthouse looks back to a long history: It's been around for 40 years! So it might not be brand new and the walls may be old, but with a lot of love and dedication we try to conserve its lovely old charm and make it a really cosy place.

The Oasis Tourist Welfare Center is under new management by a young German Globetrotter, who met her Sri Lankan husband right in this guesthouse while traveling. Being a traveler by heart, she knows very well what travelers want to feel at home away from home.

Our 6 rooms can accommodate 11 people in total. The rooms come in different sizes and with different amenities.

A good WiFi connection is available in the room.

Being the only "white girl" in town, I really enjoy meeting travelers and having a good chat and get news and ideas from all over the world and also share my knowledge about Sri Lanka and its culture. Therefore I regard the guesthouse more as my hobby and chance to meet travelers rather than a business. So I am very happy to spend some time with our guests chatting in our garden. But of course it's not compulsory ;-)

Otros aspectos destacables

Tenemos muchas mascotas aquí: Actualmente 4 gatos malcriados, 3 perros amistosos.

We have many pets here: Currently 4 spoiled cats, 3 friendly pet dogs. They are all tame and looking forward to meeting our guests. Due to the old building style there might also be a frog around the bathroom occasionally.

I recommend staying here. It is a basic room and is located directly across the street from a wonderful cave temple. We stayed here to visit Sigiriya. Christiane is a welcoming host and the dinner was delicious.

The pictures represent the room accurately. The guest house is more of a backpacker hostel. For the money it was at level expected with services available. The host is very gracious and the pets are very sweet. We took a private tour with the host and experienced sights that many other visitors may miss. Christiane is enthusiastic about the area and what it has to offer, which is a big plus. We aren’t backpackers and were visiting Sri Lanka as half vacation and half work. We had difficulty being able to spend a day working due to internet, heat (fan not powerful), and open air to outside insects. These are things beyond the host’s control so perhaps it is better suited for travelers that want to be on the move most of the day. We hope you enjoy your stay in this wonderful area!

I can vouch for her hospitality. One Japanese tourist lost her bag in bus while travelling to Dambulla. Christiane helped her in tracing her bag. Also don't forget to have dinner. She cooks really well.

I don't want to write a bad review, because Christiane and her husband are really lovely people. However, I must write an honest review and the truth is that hygiene was a real problem here. We do a lot of backpacking/wild camping so we're used to basic facilities such as cold showers (or even washing in lakes) etc. but here, not only were the facilities basic, but the room was dirty and there were mice and cockroaches. Christiane did help us to catch the mice; she caught one with her bare hands and also gave us a mouse trap, which was appreciated. But it wasn't a pleasant stay, unfortunately. We considered checking out early and finding alternative accommodation, but we didn't want to make a scene. Although the price per night is cheap by UK standards, in Sri Lanka £10 - £15 per night will buy you some really nice accommodation, so we were expecting better. The hostel is in a really great location though, right opposite the Dambulla cave temples. And, as previously mentioned, Christiane and her husband are lovely people. But we just can't recommend staying here unfortunately.

The Pink room looks exactly as on pictures and it has cozy and unique atmosphere of original building! It is big enough for a pair and with private bathroom as well. Room is part the "Oasis Tourist Welfare Center" guesthouse so you can meet fellow travelers in common room and compare your plans over the cup of tea. House also provide free drinking water which is very useful on Sri Lanka. Locations of this place is perfect, next to the Temple and close to bus station. I would add 6th star to Christiane for her help and tips on my journey. As a "half local and half foreigner", she gave me priceless tips and info about Sri Lanka so I was able to visit 3 amazing sights (Sigiriya, Pidirangula and Dambulla) in one great day. If you expect "hotel type" experience with its services avoid this place, but if you are looking for basic place with friendly atmosphere in the middle of your adventure, try this place!

Nice place, hostel like and simple. Ideal to explore the nearby rock temple. We recommend this place, Uwe & Karla

Hello dear travelers, I am a German girl and a backpacker by heart. It all started back in 2009, when I started my first big trip to Australia, where I spent 14 months backpacking. In the past 5 years ever since that, I have traveled nearly all countries in Southeast Asia and…
