Overlooking the Beaver Valley this cozy old apple orchard property enjoyed spectacular sunsets.
The decor is stylishly French Provincial and the well appointed kitchen is a dream to cook in. The beaver river is just down the road as is Thornbury with all its great shops and restaurants, and Georgian Bay. This is a very versatile location for lovers of the outdoors.

We were a total of 8 people at the cottage for three days and the following review is an input from everyone who traveled. Overall it was an okay experience for all of us, but we unanimously agree that we will not be pursuing this place again not will recommend to our friends ... Here are the positives and negatives: --- Positives --- - The host was quite nice and welcoming - It was good place to completely disconnect (given the absolute lack of internet, TV and choppy cell-phone signals) - We came with an extra friend (9th person) for 2 days out of three and Patrick was accommodating of that - Ground floor area (Living, dining, and Kitchen) were nicely and artistically furnished, equipped and lived-in --- Negatives --- - It was way 'more rustic' than we had expected - some old/expired stuff laying around in kitchen/bathroom, dirty laundry by the ground floor bathroom, one of the bedrooms had stained linens, first floor bathroom tub was only kindda clean. - There is no proper cottage-wide heating; the coal/wood furnace in the living room is great but not enough to heats up the two floors ... Additionally, someone has to be on the bi-hourly-wood-replenishing duty 24 hrs ... otherwise if you are out for more than couple hours or don't wake up every hour during the night, heat is out and cottage is cold. - Because of the old septic system, we were repeatedly told to minimize the usage of water in toilets, kitchen, shower (like going back to the 19th century) ... hence stingy showers and frequent use of phrase by the host 'when yellow, let it mellow' - It seemed that the host was not very trusting of us and needed to come by (two out of three days, to our knowledge) to check on us and sanctity of his home and belongings ... which is understandable, but invasion of guests' privacy It is not really a vacation cottage, but someone's day to day home. I can appreciate the needs to make an extra buck, but then it needs to be done properly, entrusting the guests and the guests need be clearly made aware of the 'mellow-yellow' and heating/cooling situations.

I am grateful Omar brings these issues into a forum as they do need to be aired for future guests. 1. I assure you the linens on beds are freshly laundered for every guest. I'm aware of the stains mentioned, however these are permanent blemishes and in no way reflect thier hygiene. There is also a stain on the carpet upstairs, however the carpet has been vacuumed. 2. This is my dwelling, not a hotel room, so evidence of my living here are to be expected - thus the laundry hamper next to the washing machine may have laundry in it, I confess and apologize to Omar if this was disturbing to him. 3. This is definitely a rustic country retreat and not suitable for urbanites that expect the same creature comforts of their downtown condos or hotels. That said, when operated properly, the Woodstove delivers plenty of heat to maintain a reasonable and steady 18 degrees throughout the house - however, this is still not t-shirt weather. Slippers and warm indoor clothes were recommended in our first communications for this reason. And, then there is the furnace to keep the chill off when sleeping. It's not for everyone, but then again neither is country living. 4. With respect to my visiting during Omar's stay, I did clearly say that I would come by and stoke the fire on my way to work at 7 am New Year's Day as a courtesy, and he seemed to accept the suggestion (obviously Omar either forgets or did not comprehend this aspect of our conversation). The only other visit was around their checkout time. Please know that I have the utmost respect for the privacy of my guests. 5. Since the writing of my initial review of Omar I have discovered that I am missing some bath towels and a champaign glass (which I found broken in the recycling) and they helped themselves to some shop towels I kept in a cupboard which they used as kitchen paper towels - the whole roll - and no mention was made of either.

We had a great stay at Patrick's place. I was there with my three adult children and daughter in law and it was a super base for Skiing in Blue Mountain and visiting Thornbury and Collingwood. The place was really cool and my musical kids loved the eclectic mix of instruments. There was all the equipment you need and Patrick was a great host. Thanks David and Family
