Enjoy pristine nature and local vibe from the comfort of this traditional yet brand new, two stories ‘Lumbung’ Barn House ‘Villa Umah Dewi Sri’. From the open living room, next to the koi pond, view the local farmers tending to their fields that stretch in front of you. Refresh yourself in the infinity pool with heavenly 180º views over Sidemen Valley and towards the sacred Mt. Agung. Wake up with the sunrise to the sound of nature and experience rural Bali. Relax and skip the crowds.

“You want a wonderful holiday and I want that for you too!” :)

My home is a magnificent place for independent travelers and those who want to feel and experience nature in a truly local environment. It is a very special place and experience that likewise might not be to the taste of everyone. Please read carefully before you book! Especially the points mentioned under “Other things to note” further below.

Waking up, in a cozy queen size bed, to the first morning sun, opening the doors to the balcony of the bedroom in the second floor, overlooking pristine nature, the sound of the water flowing below, watching the famers already on their way to work the fields, I always feel as if I where admiring a beautiful Balinese painting that has come to life.

No need for artificial air cons here. The unpolluted and fresh air, during the days often accompanied by a light breeze, the high arched natural rice grass roof that lets the space breath, I always enjoy a healthy and good nights sleep here in Sidemen. Only the sound of flowing water and an orchestra of crickets and frogs will have composed the soundtrack of the night below a star-filled sky.

After a delicious breakfast you might like to start your day slow. The sofa in the open living overlooking the fields and Sidemen Valley is an excellent place to watch time go by. Take a break. You deserved it. "Sabar" as they say in Bali. Take it easy :)

When the sun is out take a dip in the infinity pool with its sweeping vistas over the fields that stretch in front of you and towards the majestic Mount Agung. If you feel like, take the rustic wooden stairs down from the garden and tip your toes into the clear water of the rippling creek running in front. Especially in the early morning and the late afternoon you will meet the friendly people of the nearby village bathing and washing their clothes here. Others passing by, coming from the fields and caring their harvest on their heads. It doesn't get more picturesque than that. Smile, you are in Bali :)

You might find yourself with no desire to go out and explore. But if your adventure lust takes the better of you take a short stroll into the rice fields and down to the river for a swim. Or take a walk around Sidemen Valley and its authentic villages and witness the daily local life as it unfolds.

Too lazy to walk? Explore the nearby villages, the rice fields and temples and enjoy a drive on the quiet roads around the valley with my old scooter. It is there for you to use. You only had to fill the tank again when you come back home :)

When the night falls, and the Balinese temple of the village sounds its evening prayer, the romantic magic of Umah Dewi Sri starts to shine. The copper plated garden lights shed a soft warm light, almost like candles, into the dark blue of the night. Frogs and crickets begin their evening symphony and even fire flies one can see sometimes. In the distance twinkle the lights of Sidemen while, if you are lucky and here at the right time, the moon is rising over the mountain range to the East. Who needs a TV?

PLEASE CONSIDER BEFORE BOOKING OUR HOME!

LOCATION

We are not in or close to Ubud! We are also not in Tebola village that Sidemen is often referred to!

It is a 80 - 90 minutes drive from Ubud and a pleasurable 20 - 30 minutes walk along a quiet road to the restaurants in Sidemen. You may use our scooter to drive there if you feel like to eat out or to explore the surrounding area (Please bring it back with a full tank as provided. Thank you!).

SERVICES

We are not a hotel and we do not provide 24/7 hotel like reception! Putu and Wayan, our local staff that lives in the village, will be around during the day to clean your room, change your sheets and towels and prepare meals and snacks if you wish. Just let them know, your wish is their command :)

If you would like to have lunch or dinner in the privacy of your barn house you may pre-order in the morning from our selected menu. We do not stock all items as we are not a restaurant though we need some preparation time.

During night time at least one of our staff will be on the property.

WILDLIFE & PETS

Our home is part and in the middle of the nature. Also our cleaning standards are very high it is impossible to stop bugs, bees, lizards, frogs, geckos & Co. from visiting the house and its surroundings. We are surrounded by nature which we consider as a gift.

If you feel uncomfortable being immersed in nature and up close to its creatures our home is not the best choice for you! Please keep this in mind. We would not be happy if you are not happy and comfortable when visiting us :)

Our little rescue dog 'Bobo' is a permanent resident at Villa Umah Dewi Sri. She is lovely and well behaved (ok, most of the time she is well behaved). She isn’t allowed into the house (usually, but who can resist with that look on her face?). Anyway, should she sneaks in don't hesitate to ask our staff to accompany her out.

We often do come on the weekends ourselves and spend some time in the other Lumbung house with our friendly dog Lolly. She too is always happy to escape the city and loves to say hello to our visitors.

LOCAL LIVE

Our place is openly designed and we purposely haven't erected high walls and fences. We have enough of those in the city. The barn house is private but there are areas, like the open living room and the shared infinity pool, where passersby are able to see into. The creek in front of the property is used by local farmers to go to their fields. Local trekking guides love to take their clients for a walk along that creek as well. We told you, it is picturesque here :) The local people are very friendly and might say hello when they see you. Some might even want to have a little chat with you. A wonderful way to get involved and discover the authentic spirit of Bali.

OTHERS

The nearest ATM is in Sidemen Village a 10 minutes drive from our home. There is only one (1) ATM in Sidemen at this time and sometimes it might not work.

We cannot process credit card payments at the moment for additional services like meals, massages, etc. So sorry! We hope to be able to do so soon.

There is free WiFi on our property. However in this a rural area internet is not the fastest and sometimes might not work at all. Be prepared to be off the grid for some time (sometimes).

The beauty of the bedroom is a big glass window that lets you see the night sky when you fall asleep. In the morning the rising sun will wake you up :) The curtains do not block out the sunlight but we provide sleeping masks for those who need to them.

Ubicación

Sangkangunung - Desa Luah - Sidemen, Bali, Indonesia

Villa Umah Dewi Sri is located on the outskirts of the small Balinese Village Dusun Luah. It is a pleasant 20 - 30 minutes walk along rice fields and across the river to the busier Tebola village of Sidemen. This is where most of the hotels are located and here you will find some nice restaurants in case you feel like to eat out.

In the main Sidemen village you will find a local market, though you have to get up early as it closes around 8 am, as well as some local shops and of course the traditional weavers of Sidemen.

Sidemen is an ideal place for those that like to explore and immerse themselves in an authentic Balinese environment. Mass tourism has (still not) found its way here.

To all our guests I send, shortly before their arrival, a great digital guidebook that I have created. You can download it onto your phone and it contains information about my home, tips and recommendations about the area and things to do. I also have walking maps for those who would like to do some short hikes on their own :)

Hello my name is Nina. I'm from Indonesia, happy to meet new people and it is my pleasure to welcome you on the Island of a thousand temples. :-)
Durante tu estancia
Putu, Wayan and Gayus are our local staff. Also, honestly we don’t see them as our staff. They are family and they all live in the nearby village. All three have been with and helped us when we still where building our little dream home. We are so grateful that they are here to help us in all we and our guests need when staying at Villa Umah Dewi Sri.

Putu is the wife of Gayus. She mostly welcomes all our guests and she will be there to help you in all you need.

Wayan is very eager to train his English and he has come a long way! He also is a great cook plus that delicious coffee you get for breakfast, that is made by him.

Have a look at our garden, all the plants, trees and Orchids. This is Gayus looking carefully after all of them.

On weekends and holidays me and my husband Daniel are usually having our time out and are relaxing in the other Lumbung barn house. Don't worry, we totally respect your privacy but please don’t hesitate to ask us anything if you like to. We are always here for you :)
