Hemos pasado unos dias excelentes.

Monica is the most gracious host possible! LOTS of communication, via email and phone/text. The home is near and dear to her so she is very involved in making your stay comfortable. Pietro is her charming and very helpful friend who also makes sure that your stay is as comfortable as can be. Fresh eggs from Pietro's hens, combined w local bread, jams and foods make for a memorable experience; cooked in the most charming kitchen in the world. Ask if any of their "on premise" Olive Oil is available to purchase; as well as their neighbor's home made jams and marmalades. Beds and pillows were very comfy; Plenty of blankets. We did stay in Winter, so do expect to bundle up as this is a 300 year old Villa! If you plan to visit without a Car; prepare to master the buses and perhaps taxis. Although, in good weather this area is wonderful to experience by foot. When possible, Monica and Pietro made sure we got " to and from" with their vehicles. Prepare to be charmed by "Hector" the Cat! In closing I'd say that this is the ultimate for a tranquil, relaxing experience. This place is out of the center of business, but close enough to access Salerno, Vietri, or any place along the Amalfi Coast. No hesitation to say that Monica now feels like family! I wholeheartedly recommend her Villa, and can't wait to return!

We based this reservation on the high marks associated with this listing, but we failed to experience anything positive. First off we did not start off on the right foot. We were unable to find the home and we were not able to contact anyone regarding this issue. We stopped at a local hotel for assistance. They were very helpful in trying to contact the host or the caretaker but the phone numbers that were given for contact did not go through. In fairness, the host was traveling and was unable to respond. We ended up driving through the town asking if anyone knew of "Monica". 4 hours later we finally arrived at the house after we stumbled upon the caretaker on the road, who spoke no English, but a very nice man.. When we opened the front door, it had a very strong musty smell. We opened the windows but the biting bugs were unreal. No fans anywhere and the washer did not work. The next morning the host said that she would send the caretaker to check the washer. She said that if he was unable to get the machine working that he would clean the clothes for us. We returned home that evening and nothing was done. The clothes were still in the washer. She was kind enough to meet us the morning of checkout and basically implied that everything was our fault. She even sent an email afterwards saying that the washer was working fine and that we should have bought insect repellent. Wow...I went as far as looking online to operate the washer - made noise but no water or movement. I find it disappointing when a host fails to meet the terms of their agreement. I find it personally offensive to turn things around and blame the guests for the problems they encountered. Bad business, Pitiful experience. Rethink this property

Respuesta de Monica:
I am really sad and I don't like to be obliged to reply, and to do it publicly but, as what has been written corresponds only to one side of the story, here is what happened from the other side: ARRIVAL 1. I provide all guests in advance with detailed directions (step-by-step photos and directions) on how to reach the property. Some guests print them, some put them on their phones, some simply read them, but no one, in the past 2 years, has had problems finding the house on their own following my instructions. 2. Darren told me he would arrive around 5 pm. Pietro was waiting at the house for 2 hours, from 4,30 to 6,30 pm. 3. My phone was not working as Darren knew, because I was in a work mission in Myanmar. Pietro was waiting at the house, as said, and then moved to the main street untill 10 pm, hoping to see "a car with foreign people". The line normally works, but apparently this time it didn't. However, Pietro found no missed or unanswered calls on his phone. BUGS The mosquitoes are frequent during the summer in any Italian (or European, or worldwide) place, especially if the house is sourronded by nature. This is well known. However, even if usually guests carry their own repellent (because of allergies, or preferred smell, or other reasons) I provide some anti-mosquitoes electric plugs that guests can (and have) used. Perhaps, Pietro didn't show them to Darren, but they were visible, on the shelves and on the desk, in the two rooms. FANS Fans are available, they were not in the rooms yet, because until that moment they were not needed. It would have been easy to ask for them to Pietro or to me the next morning. However, I provide guests with light blankets because generally at night here, you need something more than a simple bedsheet. When I arrived, all windows of the entire house were shut and the air needed to be changed. WASHING The house is old, as described. And the washing machine is old too. When Darren wrote to me that he couldn't use it, I replied that the machine has a defect in the door and "it needs to be lifted-up when closing it", otherwise it sounds but doesn't turn. I also informed him that Pietro had a previous engagement untill 12,30 and he would then go to the house to check the machine or even, if asked, do the washing in his house. Pietro went to the house. Darren had left and Pietro didn't go inside because he never enters the property when guests are not at home and they don't leave a note or write to me giving him direct permission to enter, as he always respects their privacy. He was in doubt but thought better to wait untill when they were back. MEETING on CHECKOUT DAY: I came as soon as I arrived. Darren's family was packing the car, his wife and children didn't even say hello when I greeted them. I apologised to Darren, and by no means I said or implied "that everything was their fault"; I simply explained the same things I am writing here. I also sincerely said to him that I was sorry for these problmes and that I was thankful for his suggestions. I recommended Darren as a guest in my feedback. However, although, I think that he is a very serious professional (he old me he advises firms on how to improve their performances), kind and polite, he was not easy to have as a guests perhaps due to his line of work. I don't know what they were expecting to find, my description and guests feedback on the house are an honest representation of what anyone will find, and I am very sad that Darren's stay was not as he expected.

Our stay at Monica's house was very distinctive. Her description is accurate. Monica and her daughter gave us a warm welcome and helped us with suggestions for beaches, restaurants and markets. Monica advertises the house as not having modern comforts, but the house has running water, a refrigerator, electricity, wifi. It did not have a microwave, TV or air conditioning. During our stay the max temperature was 90°F. On that hot day, while air condoning would have been nice the house did not get unbearable. That evening the cool weather and breeze were welcome. Everyday the view on the morning out the balcony was awesome. I would walk down to the cafe get a coffee and then to the grocery and bring back fruits for the kids. We were able to use the house as a base to visit Salerno, get to the Almalfi coast, Naples and further down the coast to Calabria. The village of Raito had two grocery shops a cafe, and bar/restaurant and were within a few minutes drive to Vietri Sul Mare. Monica's kitchen was well suited for cooking with all the appropriate tools and foods/oils/spices. Her house is at the end of a small street, so sometimes we would shuffle car positions. But that should be expected for travel in the village. Be prepared for backing up and re-positioning of the vehicle. I highly recommend staying at Monica's house. I would love to visit there again.

COSA FARE A VILLA ARGIA
