El alojamiento
The Loft is one very generous room, with high cathedral ceilings, and plenty of light. Walls and ceilings have been recently repainted, and furnishings are simple but stylish.

The Loft is perfect for a single or couple, with a kitchenette and laundry hidden behind doors. Kitchen facilities comprise a fridge freezer, microwave/griller, double plug in hob with saucepans and fry pan, a rice cooker and a sandwich press. Milk, bottled still and sparkling water are provided on arrival.

The laundry includes a separate washing machine and dryer, ironing board and iron, and an airer. The dehumidifier has a laundry setting which fits under the airer. Washing powder is provided from Ecobeings.

A comfortable king size bed iand single divan are fitted with electric blankets and white cotton sheets. A rollaway bed, and a sofa sleeper are available, but comfortable for light people only. A portable cot is available.

The bathroom is adjacent, but not ensuite. As the Loft is the only space upstairs, we dedicate this bathroom to the Loft when guests are staying, so privacy is maintained. It features an open shower, toilet, glass vanity, and a heated towel rail. Robes, shower and hand washing products are from Ecobeings, made with our own fragrance.

WIFI is provided, and a printer is available.

Books, games and a croquet set is supplied for guest use.

Acceso para huéspedes
The Loft is above a workshop used for cooking demonstrations and workshops. Guests are welcome to use the lawn, sometimes shared with Jane who uses fruit, vegetables and herbs from the gardens.

Auckland, Nueva Zelanda

Glendowie is one of the loveliest of Auckland's suburbs, a little bit city and a little bit country, an unstressed kiwi feel but with easy access to Auckland attractions.

Good dining is within walking distance from the Loft. Try Restaurant Carinthia for an authentic German meal (licensed and BYO),and their pastry shop open in the weekends is like a trip to Vienna. Walk through Churchill Park to Japanese Musashi or Italian Il Piccolo on Waimarie Street. For a great coffee and pastry Thursday to Sunday, and beautiful artisan breads, try Tower Bakery on Waimarie Street.

The country style walk through Churchill Park offers great views over the Tamaki estuary and north to the city, or walk down through Glendowie Park along the extensive sandspit with the opportunity to see native bird and plant life with identification notes. At low tide, the beach is also exposed around the bluff to Saint Heliers which makes a good walk, and there is a bus back to make it all easy. We swim at Karaka Bay, a pedestrian only beach at the bottom of Peacock Street, also within walking distance or at high tide, at Glendowie Boating Club

Kite surfing is within walking distance on the Tamaki Estuary, or any of the Harbour beaches. Launch on the estuary from Glendowie boating Club, just doen the track from the Loft.

Glen Innes is not a beautiful shopping centre, but has the closest supermarkets. Pak n Save is large and price pointed but offer a reasonable selection. Countdown does click and collect, and both sell wine and beer. Marsic Brother do the best smoked fish in Auckland and offer a selection of fresh fish. There are various Asian supplies stores, fruit and vegetable merchants, and hardware here too. There are liquor stores in Glen Innes also for spirits and a wider selection than the supermarkets stock, but we use Fenchurch Liquor, corner Taniwha and Fenchurch Streets.

Saint Helier's beach and village shops, Mission Bay restaurants and cinema, Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World , and a 24 hour 7 day Countdown are all on the 20 minute waterfront bus route into the CBD.

Parnell French Market sells beautiful produce in the weekends, and Britomart is transformed on Saturdays to become City Farmers Market.

Our favourite city destinations are the Viaduct and the Wynyard Quarter for bistro style meals, but we love eating at Skytower's restaurants, Bellota Tapas and Wine Bar and Nic Watts fusion Japanese restaurant, Masu or Al Browns Depot which specialises in Kiwi fare.

Shopping in the city is great up High Street, and we love a glass of pinot noir at the Academy Theatre for a night at the movies - they show old films, festivals, all sorts. The Art Gallery is here too, and definitely worth a look if you have an interest.

Westhaven has some good restaurants, and a great round trip walk along the Marina and over a footbridge to St Mary's Bay. A walk up the hill from here will take you to Ponsonby which is known for designer shopping and eating.

The Ferry buildings are at the bottom of town, and offer plenty of options for ferry rides around the Gulf. We love the summer ferry to Motuihe Island, but all year trips to Devonport, Rangitoto, Tiritiri Matangi Reserve, Waiheke, and many other are fabulous too.

I first came to Glendowie 30 years ago, and returned, after years overseas and a stint in Ponsonby, to have a family. I love Glendowie, off the beaten track, but still within easy reach of the city. We are blessed with parks which call for wellies in the winter, and lovely amenities supported by locals. I enjoy being part of this community, having played a part in my childrens' school life, served as Commodore for the Glendowie Boating Club, and established Spencer's in 2010. Spencer's is about good food by people who care, New Zealand artisans and importers. I am passionate about good herbs and spices, growing as much as I can at the Loft, but supplementing with Rosemary, Oregano, Spearmint and Thyme from Greece, and Paprika from Hungary, others from India and the Orient. The Loft has been available as short term accommdation for over ten years, and we have met some remarkable people. Most people who come are wanting to get away from things for a while, and I leave them to their privacy, but am always happy to help where I can. Sometimes though, an affinity develops around a passion for books, or art, or food, and friendships develop This has resulted in friends all over the world, which is wonderful.
