El lugar

La Wisterie is a detached house with a large open plan living area downstairs featuring a 19th century solid oak table, antique tapestry chairs, and an antique sideboard, a fully fitted kitchen and three large bedrooms upstairs. The large family bathroom has a double basin vanity, toilet and a large 1.2 metre shower. There is also an additional toilet room. The bedrooms all give beautiful views of the village and surrounding countryside.
There is your own private lawn area to enjoy, accessed from your dining room.

Disponible para huéspedes

There is a large car parking area, which may also used for a leisurely game of petanque.
There are stairs for upstairs bedrooms for La Maison Wisterie, we very much regret that this makes The Old Distillery in the Lot unsuitable for wheelchair users.
Of interest is our Chai (wine storage barn) with its huge old distilling casks previously used to store Cassis.
There is also our shared pool to give you a most relaxing and enjoyable holiday in this wonderful rural location.

The Old Distillery in the Lot is located on the edge of the village of Frayssinet-le-Gélat, the Lot, which is situated on a crossroads leading to some of the most picturesque and historical villages in France. Each direction leads you on to explore and enjoy so much in these charming areas of the Lot, the Dordogne & Tarn-et-Garonne.
An easy stroll of 5 minutes brings you to our 14th century village, where at the best Boulangerie you will find your baguettes, croissants and pains aux chocolats. Then there is also the mini-market, with its friendly English speaking French owner, who has a range of local produce, including cabécou cheeses for you to enjoy, as well as a selection of groceries and wines and free wi-fi.
On the other side of the village is the local Plan d'Eau, a very pretty lake much enjoyed in summer by locals and visitors alike, with its lively bar and café and safe swimming . The very popular new café in the village is run by a well-known chef, who serves excellent meals. At the Bibliothèque library across the road from us, you may borrow books or use their computer facilities. We also have WiFi available for your use.

There is also our magnificent shared pool to give you a most relaxing and enjoyable holiday in this wonderful rural location.

Wisteria is a lovely house in a really sweet village. It is a good size house and is bigger than it looks in the photos. The kitchen has nice quality pots and pans and cutlery and is easy to cook in with a generous size fridge freezer. There's a good washing machine in the garage right next door with a washing line inside. The shared pool has plenty of sun loungers around it and a table to eat at. We loved the village and particularly the amazing boulangerie which not only does delicious bread and sweet pastries but also does a different savoury tart each day which we bought for lunch. Everyone we met in the Dordogne was terribly friendly and the area has so much to offer. Our children loved Parc en Ciel with the high wire walkways and we also loved hiring kayaks and canoes on the Dordogne river and a boat ride on the Lot river. The Wisteria cottage is right on the main village road so you need to be aware that there is significant traffic noise at night and in the morning. At the time of our stay the wifi, which is taken from the main house and extended to the cottage, only worked intermittently. This was a source of frustration as you often need to search information when enquiring about local activities. Christine lives in Australia so Lucy manages the house although she lives elsewhere and manages a number of other places. She responds pretty quickly to texts though and was extremely helpful.

After a long drive we arrived at dusk to find the house clean and welcoming. Exactly as shown on the site. The rooms were very clean and tidy and spacious. The usual scramble for rooms followed and we were happily situated for our stay. The next morning we woke to glorious sunshine and were eager to explore our local surroundings. The house, grounds, pool and nearby buildings were as described and the whole setting was lovely. The local village, again lovely, is within easy walk, as is the local shop and boulangerie. Over the two weeks we had no problems and met our maintainence family who were always on hand to help with any minor issues. The pool was regularly cleaned and always enjoyable. We also availed ourselves of the table tennis, boule ad badminton on a number of occasions. The surrounding countryside and places of interest are great and there is so much to see and visit. Highlights were the markets, food and brocante. There seems to be one every day in a different village locally so you will never be short of somewhere to go. We visited castles, vineyards and the nearby city of Cahors, with cathedral and markets, shops, cafes and street entertainers - amazing drummers! Who knew! Lots of information and maps etc. available in the house. We would highly recommend the house and the area for a visit. Thank you.

Our host was there to welcome us and provide necessary information upon arrival. She was subsequently very approachable and available throughout the trip and very helpful when we needed to access emergency facilities due to a nut allergy. There was wine, milk, tea and coffee, cheese and bread provided as a gift and a cot and high chair for our toddler. We absolutely loved the house. It had what we needed without any clutter. The pool was amazing. Our 6 kids thoroughly enjoyed being able to swim and play table tennis. The photos do not do the place justice! The BBQ was easy to use and the grounds well looked after. There were plenty of indoor and outdoor towels and fresh bedding. The surrounding area was extremely pretty and rural. We mainly stayed around the grounds (which made for a cheeper holiday) but made trips to Cahors and to Prayssac market, and went canoeing on The Lot. There was plenty of information in the house advertising other things to do and the host even drew us maps and offered to book restaurants. The host had a separate dwelling on site and was extremely friendly to all of us including the children. There is a nine person and two person place available to rent on the same grounds. The local boulangerie was a 10 minute slow leisurely walk. We found apples, peaches and blueberries ripe and ready to pick along the country lanes. We had a fantastic time and hope to return with friends next year!
