Seiun-An- is within easy walking distance from the city center as well some of Kyoto’s major sightseeing spots in the Higashiyama district , (the Eastern Mountains), including of course, Gion, the famous Geisha district; Kiyomizu Temple area with Ninenzaka and Sanenzaka; Yasaka Shrine; Chion-in Temple; Heian Shrine and more.
Seiun-An- is also a few minutes away from the Kamo River (Kyoto’s main river which runs through the city) on one side, and Maruyama park, popular with the locals at the foot of the mountains, where you can do as the Kyoto-ites do – take an early morning jog, stroll along the riverside, or relax on a park bench and watch the world go by. Another option would be to take an early morning walk in the Gion district itself and get a glimpse of the Geisha world before the tourists fill the streets.
