We spent nearly two weeks traveling through Northern Italy and the South of France, staying in different hotels and apartments, and this apartment was hands-down our favorite. If you are looking for a town full of nightlife and tourism, this place would not be for you. If, however, you are looking for a relaxing, peaceful sanctuary in a beautiful town with friendly people, good food, two beaches, and boats as far as the eye can see, you will arrive at Mimma's apartment and never want to leave.
From the little welcoming touches - juice and pasta sauce in the refrigerator, breakfast breads and pasta on the counter, a tidy collection of maps, menus, and schedules, and even some recommendations from Mimma herself - to the comfy beds, great location, and unbeatable views, this apartment was just perfect.
The apartment consists of two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom. One bedroom is huge and fits a king bed, a double futon, a wardrobe / armoire and dresser, and a little Pack & Play style bed with teddy bear sheets my daughter LOVED. The second bedroom also has a king bed and a big wardrobe. The third room we used as the living room but it could also be used as a third bedroom if you have more people, just be aware that in that case there would be no separate living space.
The bathroom is huge, the kitchen (including washing machine!) is well-equipped, the shower is excellent, the beds are comfortable, and the whole apartment was spotless. Easy street parking. Great restaurants, gelato, and grocery store all in walking distance.
Walk a few minutes around the bay and you'll find one sandy beach; walk a few minutes more and you come to a rocky beach and boat dock where in the summer you can take a boat to Portovenere (note: this apartment is not actually IN the town of Portovenere but a 10 minute drive / 15 minute boat ride away) where you can explore and take boats to other breathtaking villages, towns and islands in the region.
The best part? There are not one, but two terraces, one small one off the kitchen, and one large one off the living room with a direct view of the bay which is literally just across the street! We loved spending quiet mornings and evenings on the terrace overlooking the water, listening to the rustling of the trees and reading, writing, talking, and just contemplating the beauty of life.
I can't say enough positive things about our stay. Whenever life gets stressful I will think of my stay here and be in my happy place. :) Can't wait to come back!
