El lugar

This magnificent farmhouse has about 200 years of history in Hida Sugo Hights. This large house was originally used as both a residence and workplace for farming and sericulture, and renovated recently to welcome guests. The aged wooden structure creates its grace.

The horizontal members such as thick pillars and big beams unique to old folk house are gleaming black beautifully, which was nurtured by years of living. The floors and wooden fittings keep the color called fukiiro(fuki means to wipe and iro means color), which makes us feel some nostalgia with a irori (Japanese traditional sunken hearth).

This house has one large public room and one tatami room on the 1st floor, and 4 private rooms on the 2nd floor. If you’re family(2~6 persons), it is also possible that one tatami room on the 1st floor is used for bed room.

[1st floor]
・1 Large Living and Dining Room with Irori (Japanese open hearth)
・1 Japanese-style Tatami mat Room
・1 Kitchen
・2 Bathrooms
・2 Toilet room
・1 Small tea ceremony room

Everything was as advertised, attractive and well cared for. The house was spacious and well-equipped, with thoughtful extras (flowers, spices, brochures for interesting local attractions, even a projector and a screen, which we used for movie night). It is worth viewing this place in (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Street View to understand its context better. Also, understand that the house has some of the idiosyncrasies of an older house, with the charm and the attending few bits of extra effort. Hida is very nice, close to Shirakawa-go and Takayama. The drive over from Tokyo was a beauty. Kohei was friendly, helpful and as good as his word. He arranged futons for us, provided helpful local information to help us plan our trip, and brought additional supplies during our stay.

What a wonderful house and a great place to visit the nearby countryside. We had a great time exploring the many great features of the house and could prepare our own dinner in the professional kitchen. Coming home to our own onsen every day was a bonus. Would love to stay there again. Kohei was a great host and very friendly.

The experience at Kohei house to stay in the traditional Komika house is so special, charming and takes you back in time. The living area is peaceful and luxurious, we spent many evenings by the small fire (irori) drinking sake from the local sake houses in furakawa village. The views of the surrounding landscape is spectacular and instantly relaxes you. The house also contains everything you need, fast internet, fully equipped kitchen (great for cooking and entertaining large groups) and your own personal onsen bath. The house is a short 20 bus trip into furakawa village where there is great local restaurants and things to see. Closer to the house, try the beautiful soba restaurant just a few meters from home. They have soba making classes which looked great also.

We can't say enough good things about this beautiful, traditional Japanese home surrounded by nature! We loved that it is secluded and surrounded by friendly neighbors with lots of beautiful flower gardens! Our party of 8 (4 adults & 4 children) had a great time of refreshment along with lots of fun playing hide n go seek, watching movies, taking hikes, cooking delicious meals together, the nice hot baths in the house, and really enjoying being in the mountains. Everything was clean and ready for us, and the host is such a warm, friendly guy. He speaks great English as well, so communicating with him in Japanese and English was very comfortable for us too. We loved our stay so much, we plan to return in a few months for another time of retreat from the busyness of work and the concrete jungle we live in, lol. Highly recommend!! We also recommend that guests stop at the grocery store about 15~20 minutes out since there aren't really any stores close by. However, there is a soba shop with a super friendly staff within walking distance, so that could be a great lunch experience too!

Hello, I am Kohei.

I'm run project manager of "Hida Satoyama Office Project" , to renovate and maintain unoccupied houses worth sustaining for providing unique stay in HidaFurukawa. It’s managed by the local civil engineering and architecture company, Yanagi-Gumi(柳組 ) established since 1907, for the sustainability in Hida Furukawa, because we love Hida Furukawa and the future.

This “Satoyama Stay” is a collection of private accommodation houses dotted in Hida Furukawa town. You can stay at the refurbished Kominka”(the traditional folk house) for an accommodation as your home and hometown.

We consider one the town itself as Ryokan; “Dining”, “Wellness”, “Activity” and “Lodging”. So special service collaborated with locals can be provided for our guest.

And I'm also living in the Hida Furukawa town. It is my pleasure to meet you and help your travel as a local one.
