You can hear the river from anywhere on the grounds, which are very serene and quiet. Read a book in an adirondack chair while observing river wildlife downstream.

Live like a Cascade Mts. frontier lumber baron in a renovated, private, cozy river home. It has 3 bedrooms upstairs, and a room downstairs with a unique triple bunk bed for kids. Trout can be caught in backyard all summer. Rate is for HOUSE; not room

El lugar

Sip your morning coffee and read a book in an adirondack chair beside the cold clear Santiam river. This is THE original house in the area, built by the owner of the mill in 1942. Originally, the mill race was in the front with the log pond and a generator provided power to Detroit and Idanha. The home was on an island at one time.

Disponible para huéspedes

Enjoy fishing in the backyard, swimming or boating at Detroit Lake, or hiking in the immediate vicinity. Many mountain streams and lakes are in the area. The river in our backyard is stocked within sight at Church street bridge throughout the summer months, so you really can't beat that!

We are not renting rooms but rather the whole house for no more than 8 people total. You will be alone with your group. Access to Detroit Lake, Oregon's most popular, is also just a few miles downstream. But the advantage to our place is that it's quiet, private, and on a year round river that is gorgeous.

Atención a los huéspedes

We do not meet our guests, except through email. We are NOT renting rooms. You get the house and the river's peace to yourself. We prefer up to 6 guests, no more than 8 total. Please note that this is a remote location with no WiFi, phone, or TV service. We have many DVDs a few games, puzzles, and books to enjoy. You can get an email or phone call from the riverside or hwy 22, more reliably.

Otros aspectos destacables

No pets. Your dog is not an exception so please do not ask or ignore this rule. This is important for our home, your pet, and other guests. Cell reception is spotty at best. No more than 8 guests at a time. We limit headcount to keep things quiet!

The house is set back off the road so follow Mark's directions and you should have no problem finding the house. It's quiet and private. The house has a very nice family feel, great for getting people together, yet rooms to go off on your own. There is a great tree swing up the hill in the backyard, near the river. It's a perfect spot to watch the bats come out as the moon rises. They swoop about eating the mosquitos, so we had no little bugs after us while we sat in the swing or the Adirondack chairs near the river. I loved not having wifi- one of the reasons for choosing the location. But for those of you that need you screen time there is a good eclectic assortment of movies with a generous sized TV screen, something for everyone! The beds had good linens and were comfortable to sleep on. There is no toilet on the upper floor with the bedrooms, so just plan accordingly. It was a wonderful summer get-away! I look forward to returning to it next year.

Great house in a great location. It's the perfect mix of spacious and cozy. The home is well-stocked with everything our family needed to prepare meals and really enjoy ourselves! Mark is easy to communicate with. :) We had an awesome weekend!

This place was awesome. I'm not a skilled angler but my 8 year old and I caught plenty of trout for dinner (yum!). Very quiet, secluded, beautiful setting. No wifi or cell service, which is a plus in my opinion. We would come back. Thanks for a great couple of days off the grid with the kiddos!

If you are looking for seclusion and privacy, this is definitely the place for you. The home is quite large and has a good size deck, great for gatherings and lounging around. Being without phone/internet will take some getting used to but it's nice to unplug. The home has quite a large DVD collection so if family time is too much for you, it won't be hard to find something entertaining to watch. All-in-all it's as advertised and a nice place to stay. The home is separated from the river by a berm that you have to walk up. It's a non-issue, however, if you are expecting river views from the back deck, just know you won't get them. You can hear the river from the home though which is really nice. It was in the 90's during our stay and there is no A/C. The downstairs remains relatively cool if you close the curtains but the upstairs is absolutely unbearable. When we checked in close to 5PM it was at least 115 degrees upstairs (where 3 of the 4 bedrooms are). There are window fans to pull in cool air, but the space was effectively useless and my two year old son and I had to sleep on the futon mattress in the living room. I did go up in the morning and it was much cooler upstairs. This may not be a problem in the cooler months, however, it was problematic during our stay. Unfortunately all of the windows downstairs had screens that did not fit (they were all too short) so we were unable to open them to let in the cool air in the evenings.

We loved the home, full of antiques and in the river. The house doesn't have AC but cools down nicely by bedtime. We enjoyed our stay and had great adventures with the cabin as home base

Respuesta de Mark & Ellen:
I'm glad you had fun. You're right, opening the windows and running fans at night cools the house down in even the worst heat waves. The river provides a lot of natural cooling and great white noise for a good night's sleep.

My fiance and I stay here for 3 nights in September. The house had everything we needed. There was plenty of cookware, towels, soap, and even 2 fishing poles. We brought food and clothes, and picked up some firewood from the local country store right up the street from the house. The property was quiet and secluded, yet still close to Detroit. We caught fish, relaxed by the bonfire, and played board games. We really enjoyed have the river right in the backyard. Mark responded quickly to our emails, and had great recommendations for things to do in the area. The house felt very homey, and had a lot of cute quirks. We enjoyed a nice relaxing weekend here, and would stay here again in the future.
