I wondered for many days what to write for this review since we have mixed feelings. The rooms are nice and clean and the housekeeping service decent. The room would be cleaned everyday. The apartment, fixtures, sheets, everything is new (and golden!). But the room itself is incredibly small. It doesn not deserve a "Luxury" tag when the windows peep into someone else's house. And out of the 1500 odd channels, there are maybe two or three English ones. The apartment is in a residential area in Fatih, some 700 mts from the Grand Bazaar and tram stations (don't take taxis in Istanbul, take an Istanbul travel card instead and travel by tram, metro or ferry, something Altan never told us). Also note that the said tram station can be reached from this location only after a walk up a road that is inclined at a 30 degree angle. Any one not used to some form of exercise may find the first few days arduous! There are nice restaurants within 5-minutes (Kadirga park and Kumkapi) a great Lokantasi (traditional Turkish food not some hoi polloi restaurant), Bakalava place, bread store, supermarkets, etc. Altan is a nice chap who is eager to please, always available on phone to help but needs to know more about tourism and how to help his guests in his city with relevant information and be more professional. The place seems quite secure, the main building door has a lock which can be opened only by the residents. Our room door (I can't call it an apartment) lock broke (new fixtures but not too good ones) and took two days to repair. We had to leave the room open in the day with all our belongings unsecured. This really didn't inspire confidence at all. Overall, suffice to say that we didn't really feel like coming back to the room everyday. Felt that it wasn't worth the Euro 100 or so that we spent per night. But yes, it was not an uncomfortable stay either. We give an Average rating to this room simply because there is a lot of scope for improvement!
