I was very impressed with the location and ocean views from Randall's apartment. I had arrived and there was a bottle of wine and a welcome note thanking me for booking my stay there. From there on, there were a bunch of bumps in the road for the next week and a half. I had arrived to rotten food in the fridge, dirty dishes, glasses, and baking pans throughout the cubbards. There were fruit flys and ants in the pantry area which became increasingly overwhelming throughout my stay. The first time I went to the bathroom, I was forced to penguin walk to the kitchen and use coffee filters as wipes. As an AirBnb host, they did not leave any paper towels, toilet paper, or an ample clean living environment. Window sills, counters, and room dividers had to all be wiped down as they were noticeably dirty. After a day of traveling over 3000 miles, I was not in the mood to make a fuss, the location of the apartment was breath taking with views - 9 out of 10 - and high end restaurants within walking distance so I bit the bullet and cleaned the apartment my first night there. The bedroom as cute and comfortable as it is, had no light or power so I was forced to run an extension cord in and out of the room nightly. The ad stated they had cable, but only public tv and netflix was available. I am a very clean bachelor who is a creature of habits, I booked the place for myself and only myself, I like to watch my ESPN in the morning and a few shows at night before I knock out, which I was unable to do. (Not the end of the world but was misled) There was no screen in the main window in the living room so i was forced to leave it closed and the ocean breeze was limited... only one small fan was available and it was covered in dirt and dust, in which I had to scrub in the kitchen sink before use. After coming home on night 8 the insect problem became unbearable so I stayed at a friends in West Hollywood. The next day the "Super" dropped off some ant and bug killer - I sprayed the place myself twice and never saw another ant. Randall and his GF were not in town so I never met them, but with my limited interactions with them over the phone, they seemed like very nice genuine people. My opinion is that they had someone rent the place a few weeks prior to my booking and hired a third party to watch over the place in between and clean it while they went on a vacation - as a result they were taken advantage by either or both parties. Unfortunately, I happen to be the one who got the shit end of the stick. My own fault, Randall had no prior reviews.

Kenneth, I thank you for your review. You are 100% correct about what you stated. I had a woman stay there for three days before you arrived and had my housecleaner come by in between the time she left and you arrived. I have spoken with the housecleaner, who I believe you also feel didn't do an adequate job. She had also cleaned the apartment two weeks prior when I had a couple stay there so I know exactly who the culprit of this mess was. Let me first say that from my cleaner, she had told me that the place was an absolute disaster when this other tenant left. I will not get into the specifics but this woman who I will write to about airbnb left my place a filthy mess. We had spoken and you are right that she put dirty dishes back in the cupboards, thereby attracting the ants. And we are still fighting them off. I did mention in the letter that this complex can have fruit fly issue from time to time. I am sorry if you felt that the housecleaner did not do a sufficient enough job but I have spoken with her and hopefully she will pay more attention to certain detail that you feel was overlooked. In regards to the cable, when we left the apartment, we had basic cable on that tv. Now we don't. We never wanted to buy into a bundle and were happy with the 70 or so channels that we "received". When we got back after reprogramming, you are right and we only got a few local channels. I have no idea what had happened but I assure, we didn't false advertise anything. As far as the power source, I am guessing the prior person disconnected the light and fan from the socket. Underneath the bed, there is a power strip with 5 sockets. We use it for the fan and light every night so you need to trust me that it's there. And I can show evidence through pictures. I wish you had mentioned that to me when we were in communication because that issue could have been easily resolved. As far as the bikes, I did mention they were "beater" bikes but had no idea that the black one had the seat broken. I was really annoyed because I use this bike to go to work on the bike path in the summer. It is my fault for telling the prior tenant about it and giving them access to it. I do believe again, this person may have had something to do with it. As a person who does lot of traveling both nationally and internationally, I have a good sense of what I like and how I feel people should treat others and their homes respectively. I was deeply upset by the condition that the prior tenant left the place and the lack of respect she had for our home. I am more sorry that you had to check in to a place that, clearly the prior person in the three days she was there, had no respect for. It was a lesson learned for me. I tried to do my best to be in touch and do anything I could to try and make your stay better. I want you to know how upset I was that you had to deal with these issues. Sorry that things turned out this way and I appreciate your candor in the review.
