Just a 15 minutes beautiful walk to Coffee Bay we live in a peaceful village. You will be the only tourist here. Xhosas plowing their gardens and thatching the roofs. You watch the sheep passing by and starring at you. Raptors hunting young chickens and a large variety of birds visiting. Children walking to school and doing nonsense. If you want to experience the real Africa, but prefer to have a bit comfort (hot shower & bath, fridge, flush toilet, jungle shower) then you are right here !

Eybe is an amazing host with really cool stories and a passion for what he does. He's happy to share and help. It was a great experience to step into a typical African world with the safety of a German host who connects both worlds. Trully recommanded place to stay!

The traditional house is amazing, big and warm for cold winters. The view is great at sunset and it's very nice to be surrounded by kids running around and animals. I recommande this place if you want to get away from the busy world.

Definitiv eine einmalige Erfahrung, man bekommt einen Einblick in die Lebensweise der Xhosa. Wir hätten uns etwas mehr Sauberkeit gewünscht können die Unterkunft aber trotzdem weiterempfehlen.

The place is rather remote, and if the host would not pick you up at the street, you'll have a problem. The rondavel is well situated, overlooking the area. The place could be cleaner, but if you want to know how the people in the village live, it's a good place to experience this. The host, Eybe, is a very nice and communicative person, very busy with his work as a medical doctor for children. The village of Coffee Bay seems to be stuck in the late seventies.

I am a German doctor working in the clinics around Coffee Bay. I like the rural life among the Xhosa. I like the friendly and uncomplicated life style of the Amamxhosa. I like good and fresh food. I like my garden a lot and to plant trees. I have got chickens and 10 sheep.
My wife Alicia is a real Xhosa woman, who grew up in this village. She has worked in a hostel before and knows how to cook and to care for guests. She is running a small spaza shop in the village, were she sells basic food and needs of the village people. She is talkative and very fresh. She is a very friendly, laughing a lot and likes to dance as well. She is smiling a lot and she is very organized.
We have got a large African family with many kids. Besides caring for the kids, our garden and animals we like to escape and to visit other places. We are a bit picky when it comes to choosing a right place and often we go to guest houses. We expect the rooms to be clean and the location to be quiet. We like to have our privacy and to be left on our own, but we like to chat with the people of the guest house by times as well.
