This is a special place, away from everything that wears one down. Come ready to relax and enjoy a simple time with the salty breeze. Smith is a certain type of place and a certain type of people unlike anywhere else. Spending time there is an honor.

We are a family of four, two daughters (10 and 16.) If you are looking for parasailing, nightlife...not the place. If you are looking for total relaxation, limited cell access, beautiful and tranquil environment...this is the place! Plenty to do: kayaking, boat ride to Tylerton, bike rides around island and to Rhodes (Rogues :0) Point. Kids were not bored...we watched a Smith Island documentary and one movie in three days...outside and exploring most of the time. Cottage is just sweet...all that we needed. Cynthia made certain we were fine during our stay. A real gem, away from the hustle and bustle. Thanks to Cynthia :0)

Petite Maerin was so enchanting. My daughter and I loved everything about it--just the right size and amenities for the two of us for 2 nights. Smith Island is a treasure and its people are so friendly and helpful. Cynthia is an outstanding host--our trip was very last minute, as in we decided to go 2 days beforehand. We were very lucky the cottage was open for that weekend!! Cynthia could not have been more helpful with the arrangements and recommendations and was very accommodating. At her recommendation, we asked Sharon to prepare both night's meals, and she is everything everyone says...and more. Her crab cakes and crab dip and sides were outstanding and so lovingly presented and delivered. Since it was my birthday, we ordered a Smith Island cake from Sharon and it was beyond delicious!! We visited the island on the hottest days of the summer, the flies were biting and the bay was low. Still, I would return in a second--see myself on the porch of the cottage typing away at my book. Maybe this Fall. Thank you Cynthia and Sharon!!

We had an amazing time at Petite Maerin Cottage! It was very cozy and quiet. Our favorite part of the visit was simply living within the space. The cottage is perfect and you'll never want to leave. Cynthia is an excellent communicator but in addition, a few tips: bring bug spray and alcohol. The island is dry, but the local "tiki" bar sells virgin frozen drinks. Water access is essential for a trip longer than 2 days so consider booking a water-man or bringing kayaks. The bikes provided are great to get around Ewell and Rhodes Point but you can't reach Tylerton without a boat. The best decision we made was to take Sharon up on her home-cooked meals. It made the trip truly memorable. I cannot recommend it enough, it is worth every penny. Make sure to order a Smith Island cake - anything sold in a restaurant pales in comparison. The hot crab dip & crab-cakes are unmissable.

We would highly recommend the Petite Maerin if you're looking for a quaint, out of the way place. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and got the secluded, off the grid we were looking for! Be sure to order the crab cake dinner from Sharon -- amazing. Delicious food, friendly locals, spectacular sunsets and very caring, attentive hosts.

Le Petit Maerin is an extraordinary place to spend a long weekend (or longer). I have not felt so blissfully disconnected in a very long time. There is nothing like sleeping in a boat-shaped bed after watching the light fade and the fireflies come out from the dock or the screened in front room.
