A large, beautiful and homely farmhouse (late 17thC) set in 17 acres of rolling countryside near the pretty town of Beaminster. Sleeps 11/13, in 3 doubles (one ensuite), a double with adjoining space (& futon for the extra 2), a twin (kids room), a single and two further bathrooms. Downstairs there's a large Aga-warmed kitchen, spacious dinning and sitting rooms with log burners, and a kid's playroom. Outside there's a trampoline, zipwire, treehouse, rope swings & space for kids to run wild in.

El lugar

Wantsley is a lovely, homely and traditional old family farmhouse that we live in with our two boys, and rent out occasionally. Close to the town of Beaminster and twenty minutes from the Jurassic coast, the house sits in 17 acres of fields and woodland. There are three bathrooms, one en suite (shower etc), one large and fairly luxurious, and one more like a kid's bathroom. The attic room sleeps two, but is adjoined by a playroom with a futon that will take two children if required. On the ground floor there's a large kitchen with an Aga and seating for an easy 8 (plenty more chairs dotted about the house) a kids playroom off the kitchen with a DVD player, The dining room has a fire, a grand piano and a table that will seat ten on its own, or 14 with the extra table on the end. There's a spacious sitting room with a large fireplace and TV, with SKY and DVD. There are two downstairs loos, one in a utility room and one smart one. The house faces south across the gardens and looks over a small stream (that provides the water for the house - all filtered of course) up over the fields to the wood. There are 17 acres to explore, as well as a tree house, zip wire (entirely at your own risk max weight 70k) and rope swings. The chickens produce beautiful fresh eggs when they're in the mood and if you can find them - they're completely free range, and there's a goose and three runner ducks pottering about somewhere.

We rent out the house as a whole with access to six bedrooms and all reception rooms. The garden, fields and woods are yours to roam in, but anyone trying out the zip wire or stream swing does so entirely at their own risk! As we live in the house most of the year, our bedroom and the boys room will have our stuff in it, though we will make sure there is some room for your clothes of course :). It's (in original AirBnB fashion) a family home not a posh hotel, suited best for those who want to immerse themselves in the beautiful Dorset countryside and stay in a traditional farmhouse.

We will endeavour to be there to welcome you depending on your dates, but if not we will drum up a smiling face from somewhere, and we will of course leave extensive and mildly entertaining notes everywhere so you know exactly what's what.

Wantsley Farm is set in the beautiful rolling Dorset countryside outside the town of Beaminster and 20 minutes from the famous Jurassic coast. Our nearest seaside town and beach is West Bay (15 mins), and Lyme Regis & Chesil Beach are nearby. Mapperton House (the set for the film Far From The Madding Crowd) is just up the road. If you're keen walkers then you're in luck as there are dozens of wonderful walks nearby such as Lewesden Hill (the highest is Dorset), Pilsdon Pen, or you can just walk from the farm over the hill with view to the sea, and down to the nearby village of Stoke Abbott for a drink and a meal at The New Inn.

Cars are a must, there's a bus service from the local village, but you have to walk to the village. It's Hardy country, what can I say.

We loved our stay at Wantsley Farm!! Charlie communicated everything perfectly to us and was a gracious host. We were even greeted with fresh jam and homemade bread. The home was warm and inviting and situated in some of the most beautiful countryside I've ever seen. We had a large group of 8 adults stay here and had plenty of room and some to spare. Lots of bedrooms and other living spaces, large kitchen, great bathrooms and quiet scenery. The amenities were great and the house worked well for us as a base camp going to and from various places in the area each day. We loved exploring the trails and property. We would absolutely recommend staying here.

What a fabulous find!!! The house is amazing and the gardens are even more impressive! Such a beautiful setting for a family get together. We had a week of beautiful weather so spent most of our time out in the huge garden. The hosts were faultless - they couldn't do enough to make our stay perfect. They were very responsive to emails/texts and any queries we had prior and during our stay. I couldn't recommend this property more highly!

We had the most fabulous few days here as a large party of 8 adults and 2 little ones. Its a beautiful house, so much character, very homely with the biggest garden our two young boys could wish for, complete with zip wire, trampoline, swings and lots of places to explore. Plenty of toys and games to play with too. and they loved collecting the hen and duck eggs each day. The house is very comfortable with all the facilities you need for a home from home experience. lovely big powerful showers, plenty of hot water, a wonderful big aga for cooking and a big dining room and living room. Outside there is lovely places to sit and enjoy dinner under fairy lights and a little sun trap area for morning coffee. Its beautifully peaceful and quiet and a great place to explore the local area, beaches and fabulous Dorset countryside. You won't be disappointed!

Just back from a half-term week at Wantsley Farm. Party of 11: 5 adults, 6 children (1-12). Being a family home with playroom, toys and a huge garden was a great plus for the kids. The property is beautiful and very accurately described. Horseriding at Bidlake Farm, Lyme Regis, Eype, West Bay and Burton Bradstock all great fun. Catering from Brown Goose was spot on. A great trip all round, highly recommended.

Charlie's house is such a beautiful home in the most wonderful setting. We took kids with us and they loved the whole property. From the wonderful play areas to the zip line, ducks and tree house outside, the house is a wonderful getaway in the country. We loved running in the hills and drinking wine by the fire! Charlie is a wonderful host who prepared us well for the whole trip. We highly recommend staying here and know any guests would have a wonderful time in Summer or Winter.

We had a great family Christmas - 13 of us ranging from 11 to mid 60s - made good use of all the facilities, games and other entertainments provided and even better use of the kitchen to cook a succession of festive dinners for the hoard. The hosts' Xmas welcome pack of home produced eggs, chutney, local treats + chocs and a bottle of fizz was great and the house was decorated throughout with lights, holly and baubles and had a Christmas tree - so we all felt at home from the beginning. If you like walking in the countryside, or just looking at it, this is a great place to be and Beaminster, a 5 min drive or short walk away, has pubs, restaurants cafes & shops for added diversions. The Hive Beach Café on the coast just east of Burton Bradstock, 20 mins drive away, is a must if you like fresh fish and seafood - coupled with a bracing walk on the beach. Wantsley Farmhouse is big enough to have large family groups of a dozen or so, assuming a mix of adults and children, and space enough to slump in front of the log burner fire and watch telly; read quietly in a corner; play games or snooker or sit round the table for a drink and a chat - all at the same time and without falling over each other - which we managed to do for five days, which was great. (If navigating to Wantsley by SatNav, be aware that this may take you the Horn Park Farm, which is a few hundred metres further east than you need to be).

I'm a jazz/cabaret singer, ex-actress and Aerialist instructor, and something of a coffee nut, so there is always very good coffee to be had here! I am married to a photographer and have two small slightly noisy, but adorable boys. We love to travel with packs on our backs to distant lands with adventure in mind, but love nothing more than walking through the beautiful Dorset countryside we're so lucky to live in. Theatre, books and swimming are what make me tick, when time from running a busy family allows that is. We have a pretty relaxed and laissez faire attitude as befits life in the countryside.
