Dónde vas a estar

Annascaul, Irlanda

Annascaul (Abhainn na Scail - River of the Shadows)
At the southern foothills of the Slieve Mish Mountains, Annascaul’s lovely name reflects its unspoilt beauty. With breathtaking views of mountains, rivers, glaciated valleys, lakes and sea, Annascaul shouldn't be missed Sit on a rock at the secluded cove of Bunnaeer and watch the sun set over Dingle Bay, the McGillicuddy Reeks and the Ring of Kerry or take a rest on Cuchulainn’s bed (a mountain top burial chamber), you may never want to leave! Annascaul is a walker’s heaven on earth, with everything from mountain hikes, to lake side trails, beach walks to strolls down peaceful fuchsia lined country lanes. Join the local Annascaul Walking Club on their regular Sunday walks or come along to the annual Annascaul Walking Festival every October Bank Holiday Weekend. Anglers can fish for trout, salmon and sea trout in Annascaul Lake, the River Scaul (River of the Shadows) or try some shore fishing at Minard Boulder Beach. As with the rest of the Dingle Peninsula, Annascaul boasts a wealth of archaeological remains, standing stones, cromlechs, ringforts, and much more. The region is steeped in folklore as evidenced by the many evocative place names such as Mam na Gearran (the mountain pass of the female hogs).
Annascaul is celebrated as the birth and resting place of the famous Antarctic explorer Tom Crean, who accompanied both Shackleton and Scott on their adventures. Ramble along the Tom Crean Trail which brings you to his birth place, the location where he embarked on his voyages and his final resting place. Another famous son of Annascaul is Jerome O Connor, a well known sculptor who grew up in the hills near the village and gained international fame.
There are a number of festivals for you to experience in this quaint village. Enjoy a traditional mutton pie at the bi-annual Ballinclar Fair, in May and October. This is the traditional sheep and cattle fair offering great fun with super music and family entertainment. Every August Bank Holiday Weekend, the Annascaul Beer Fest takes place and there is a new local brew called the Tom Crean Beer. The Annascaul region has something for everyone with potters, herb producers, cheese farms and the award winning Annascaul black and white pudding made here. With a great choice of cosy and welcoming accommodation, informal eateries and lively pubs, Annascaul entices visitors to stay and enjoy this charming village and magnificent landscape.
