Go here if you would really like to get away from everything. Be prepared to tent camp. Shannon had cots set up in the tipi for us which was nice. There are cats and dogs on site who are very friendly. There is a trail to walk and a big starry sky. The host, Shannon was great!

Unique experience to both sleep in a tipi on a reservation, under the stars! We experience an intense lightning and thunderstorm while in the tipi, and a little water came in as we expected since the top is open. But it was kind of exciting. And the land is beautiful and Shannon takes so much time and effort explaining all the great things she is doing here - from having a girl's camp to growing food and establishing an orchard. Was a highlight of our trip!

This is really a once in a lifetime opportunity! For anyone interested in getting to know the Native American culture, this is a great way to do it. In the heart of Pine Ridge reservation and minutes from Wounded Knee memorial. Our girls learned a great deal from this overnight stay in Pine Ridge. Shannon was a great host! We were lucky enough to arrive when the community had a powwow. Our youngest even danced in the powwow!! Shannon had set up a girls camp at her house the next day and invited our girls. They had a blast! As I expected, the tipi is extremely basic. Shannon had set up a carpet as well as a small cushion to sleep on inside the tipi. She also offered sleeping bags (we had our own). The outhouse is the most difficult to get used to. There is toilet paper and some water to wash hands though. Overall, we're very happy with our experience!

If you're looking to stargaze, this is the place to be! We stayed in one of the teepees, and though it was within eye shot of another teepee and some other cool earth-friendly dwellings where others were staying, there was plenty of privacy. Taking the advice of a previous guest, we arrived early enough the day of our visit to meet Shannon, her wonderful family, and some of the other people staying there. My kids (ages 8 and 10) loved swimming with all the other kids and jumping on the trampoline. Shannon was even so kind as to give me a tour of her food forest and home after my kids were in bed. Not only was it a wonderful experience as a novelty (staying in a teepee), but seeing conservation-minded living in full swing in non-teepee format was encouraging and inspirational. One thing to consider, the teepee hole does not have a flap to close, so we woke up with a cat and dog inside, which I thought was memorable and the kids thought was downright terrific :) If you'd like to skip that part of the experience, it might be wise to bring a blanket or ask about how to close that opening :)

We had a great time. Shannon wasn't able to be there, but Mike provided everything we needed. Beautiful landscape and a very unique experience.

This listing was fantastic. We had a beautiful star filled night in our lovely tipi on the plains. Shannon's family and friends were there to greet us and to help us get settled in. She also gave great directions to help us get there after our stop in Wounded Knee. We brought a cooler of food with us, which worked out well because the nearest places to eat are quite far. It was a great place to start our day the next morning when we went to Badlands, Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Black Hills. There is a fire area, picnic tables, and outhouse located on grounds. There are also lights connecting the tipis to the other areas so you can walk around at night if needed.
