We offer a 76 square meter appartment in the east-side of the city-center.
Amsterdam-Oost is a 19th century working-class neighbourhood that has become a favourite place amongst students, artist and young professionals. We live very close to the subwaystop 'Wibautstraat', from where you can reach Central Station in 5 minutes. Around the corner is the Oosterpark, a beautiful 19th century park, where you can relax, barbeque, sunbath, run, play tennis or just watch a variety of people. In the summer it host the famous free Amsterdam Roots Festival and the Appelsap Festival.
Our house is just a little walk from the the biggest outdoor market of Amsterdam, the best beer brewery of Amsterdam 't IJ (forget Heineken!), the windmill, the Tropical museum, nightlife hotspots like Trouw, Canvas, Hotel Arena and Studio-K, and of course the beautiful Amstel river that gave Amsterdam her name. Many supermarkets, typcial dutch stores and etnic shops can be found in the neighbourhood. We will provide you with maps and we love to point out our favourite places!
Our appartment was build in 1983. It's not the prettiest from the outside but beautiful and very comfortable from the inside. Where the rest of Amsterdam is infamous for mice and thin walls, our house is free from any uninvited guests and very well isolated.
The appartment is on the first floor. All rooms are connected to the entrance hall. We have two comfortable bed rooms, both with double beds (one kingsize and on sofa bed).
We have a spacious living room with comfy sofa's, a dining table, tv, wifi broadband internet, a good soundsystem and board games. Also we have a nice collection of books (art, history, novels, detectives, many english titles), cd's, vinyl and dvd's (series like Soprano's, Cold Feet, Sex and this city, Spooks and classics like Magnolia, Amelie and Reservoir dogs. Also some great dutch movies with subtitles). The living room can also serve as a bedroom: one of the couches is a bank bed.
The kitchen is big and is well-equipted. Since cooking is Anna's passion, we dare to say that we have almost every kitchen instrument you might need. A juicer, citrus press, food processor, electric grill, dish washer and lots more.
We have a separate toilet and bathroom. The bathroom has a combined shower and bath and a washing machine.
BALCONY AND GARDEN
We have two balconies. In the summer it's a great place for breakfast. Also, you can use the shared garden which is well looked after. We don't use it very often but enjoy the view every morning.
Parking in Amsterdam is very expensive but we can point you out some safe places where you can park you car for free.
As mentioned above we live close to the metrostop 'Wibautstraat'. The subway will take you to Central Station, Amstel Station and, with one stop-over, Schiphol airport. By tram number 3 and 7 it's easy to reach Museumplein and Leidseplein.
We have been hosting many friends from abroad, airbnb'ers and couchsurfers over the past years. We like to welcome you! If you want, we will take the time to give you advice on where to go and what to do. If you'd like to, we'll show you around town and point out our favourite places. During your stay you can always contact us for any kind of questions.
I was born and raised in Amsterdam. I studied Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam and the Masters Culture, Organization and Management at the VU Amsterdam. My housemate is Madieke who is a professional singer and travels a lot for her work. We both love to cook, so the house is very well equipped kitchen wise..
