Private room in old New England farmhouse surrounded by green & quiet with a shared bathroom, screened porch, working fireplace, living room and coffee in the morning, if desired. 35-40 min. to Boston, local nature walks & small-town charm
I live in an old farmhouse heated and cooled by geothermal (no oil or gas!) in a small suburb on the north shore of Boston. It's a very private property surrounded by gardens and trees. There's a very quiet green cheek parrot that also lives here.We also have a dog. I am a professor, so during the semester I spend most of my time grading papers but would be happy to give you tips on what to see in the area. There are plenty of lovely walks around Topsfield and Boxford and you can stroll to the center in about 25 minutes for a truly small town New England experience. The house isn't far from 95 so it's VERY easy to get into Boston (35 min.), Gloucester (30 min), Ipswich beaches (20 min), Essex seafood and antiques (25 min), and Historic Newburyport (15 min.). We're also a good 25 minutes to the New Hampshire border and 35 to Maine. Come for the foliage in the fall or the famous agricultural Topsfield Fair in October or even in winter for a quiet getaway from Boston. We allow compatible dogs whose owners can keep them with them. We do not have kennel facilities, but have a timid lab cross who will get along with mellow dogs. No cats please! We have a loose parrot

You have access to most of the house. There's a large entryway and living room with a TV (netflix, sorry no cable) and working fireplace, a porch in the summer, a kitchen, though no general cooking privileges, and bathroom upstairs. There's wifi throughout the house and gardens to enjoy. Feel free to pick up a book as most walls in the house have a bookcase on them.

I'm happy to have a cup of coffee with you and give you some tips on what to see (I have guidebooks here for New England). Normally, I don't get up before 9 am in the morning and am often up late reading or grading papers, but I have an early class on Tuesday and Thursdays that have me leaving the house at 5:30 am this spring.
