Heaven on earth! Although the Netherlands has its very picturesque areas and a quality way of life, you can’t blame Femke & Venise for having left their country behind when you stay a night (or 2 or 3 or longer!) in the absolutely breathtaking region of More og Romsdal where Lauvstad is located, and their cosy chalet, in particular, nestled on a hill overlooking the fjord. They made a life decision, and we are very grateful to them for having done so! We imagine that they don’t regret it for one second even though it is tough being away from aging parents and loved ones. We felt light years away from our own way of life in France with its own version of hustle & bustle, whining, etc., and were able to decompress within seconds of stepping foot into the chalet. Femke & Venise have a real knack for decorating – the chalet has a warm heart and deep soul to it. The colors are calming, the furniture, beds and linens are as comfy as ever – we loved the dining room table and the driftwood beam light above it, not to mention all the artwork, sculptures and various specialty pieces from their travels the world over. You’ve all you need and more in the chalet (food staples, coffee and even a bit of firewood), and it is comforting to know that they are next door should you need anything else. They kept to themselves, mostly because they were out tending to their animals (what a great bunch!), their multiple hectares (or acres!) of land or home renovations. Time seems to have come to a stop in Lauvstad. Those who stay there are "forced" to accept a slower, more serene and healthier way of life. When there, you don’t want to miss a sunrise or a sunset, and when sitting out on the front porch, you simply want the moment to last forever. Around every bend is a sight for sore eyes – you cannot help but pinch yourself because it’s hard to believe that sights such as those we saw exist in this off-the-beaten path part of Norway that probably gets overlooked if you stick too closely to suggestions in your guidebooks. All the better for us because nature remains unspoiled, in its raw state, and is not tainted by tourists just trying to check off a maximum number of sites as possible without actually taking the time to soak any of it up. Femke & Venise are environmentally-conscious, and it was great to have separate bins for plastic, paper, metal and compost-destined items. Femke offered suggestions on how to best make the most of our ridiculously short time (3 nights), and lent us a map with walks of varying difficulties and durations near to their home (we’ll find them next time!). Femke & Venise are strong, determined and ambitious women who are not afraid to take risks. They propose excursions (fishing, hikes, etc.) and various products (animal skin...

This is a really great place to stay with kids. Everything is exactly as described and pictured. Our kids loved all the animals around which they could feed and pet. Check-in was really easy even though we were quite late. Venise and Femke made us feel really welcome and told us a lot about the area and Norway in general. Highly recommended!
