We absolutely loved our stay in Komiza! If you are thinking about (URL HIDDEN) it!!! We would definitely stay in our apartment again. We had two adults, a 7 year old and a 1 year old. The bedroom fit the baby cot (we brought) and we pushed the kitchen table to the side so the kids can move around. The kitchen had everything we needed, there is a WASHING MACHINE!!!, air-conditioning, and wifi is less than 20 steps from your door. The apartment has a beautiful garden and patio above the apartment, all yours, totally private.
The best features are the location and the hostess!!! The location is right in the town center-bakery, restaurants, boats, bars, ice cream, grocery store-all within 30 seconds of your door step. But! There is an apartment building with a passageway separating you from the business, so your apartment is VERY quiet and private. The nearest beach is maybe a two minute walk, we went there almost everyday.
Zrinka, the hostess, is amazing. She met us at the bus stop (which is very close to the apartment), showed us around, gave us a map with notes, recommended restaurants, tipped us on local secrets. Our trip was perfect because of her.
Our favorite things to do on the island (we stayed 7 nights): rented a car for 2 days and visited Zrinka's favorite beach and swam in the Green Cave, day 2-went to Stoncica Beach and the Submarine Caves, a day trip to Blue Cave and the beach on the island, then spent days exploring the beaches (swimming and snorkeling) and restaurants in Komiza, and eating icecream.
We fell in love with the locals, admire their history and beautiful island. It was a trip we will never forget.
Budget tips and other info: car rental 40-50 euros per day (child car seats available, no need to book in advance-just when you arrive is fine), Blue Cave is about 20 euros per person, cheaper or free for child, boat ride from Rukavac to Green Cave-less than 20 euros total. Everything else we did (besides food and drink) was free. Drinking water is high quality. Food costs more because you are on an island, comparable to what we pay in Germany, pizza pie 8 euros, a fancy meal 30-40 euros per person. We bought a beach umbrella (10 euros), snorkel (20 euros or less) and used them everyday. For our 1 year old: we used our portable booster seat at restaurants, child-carrier with an umbrella for shade was used most of the time, and the stroller for the beaches farther away in Komiza (about 15-20 minute walk).
The Ferry ride: bring food and snacks (the food is very basic but plenty of drinks). There are food stands before you get on the ferry.
