First thing first. This property is nice and close for Parisians to enjoy some of the most picturesque countryside in France, as many have done for years. Jean-Gerard does not speak English, but scratch past this only detail, with some things purchased at the great local supermarket at St Armand En Puisaye, we had the greatest relaxation attack on the porch in a beautiful corner of the world. Jean-Gerard is a delightful and generous host, and we still managed to converse in some depth. Learn just a little French, and you will rewarded in spades.
The main reason we came to this area was to take the children to see Chateau Guedelon, a castle under construction as if it was 1229AD, squirrel cage cranes, rope making, stone cutting, period clothes, the lot. Pitched to children and adults alike with English subtitles signs. It does not get any more authentic than this anywhere in the world. In our case we combined this with a castle tour down the Loire Valley.
