Located in a rural development 12 mi. south of Prineville (25 minutes), 5 mi. north of the popular Prineville Reservoir State Park (15-20 minutes), this home offers 2 bedrooms, a bonus room with sleeper sofa, 1.5 baths, 2 balconies, a patio, grill, and views from every window.

El lugar

We built this two story, Cascade view home from our own design in order to maximize views. It is our dream home with a million dollar view. We love it so much, we spend most of our vacation time here too.

It sits on 5.5 acres of high desert landscape (mostly sage, juniper, and rabbit brush) and has views of Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top, the Three Sisters, Mt. Jefferson, and the profile of Smith Rock. Sunrises, sunsets, storms, and star-gazing can be spectacular.

Ample shade in the junipers behind the house provides a relaxing oasis after a day at the rodeo, the lake, or hiking and exploring. Picnic table and hammocks are available for this area.

The patio under the pergola has a table and chairs as well as a propane firepit. The grass adjacent to the patio has a porch swing with mountain views.

The house is not really appropriate for very young children. The window blinds, second story windows, kitchen cabinets, and electrical outlets do not have child-safety mechanisms. Second story balconies have inherent risks. The west side retaining wall with cactus is, well, a jumble of basalt with cactus ;-).

This is a great place for travelers with pets, but we do ask that you spend some extra time vacuuming, sweeping, and picking up after your pet outside. We cut the lawn bordering the house, etc., so poop pick up is much appreciated.

We recently drilled a well, so water restrictions formerly described here no longer apply. Nonetheless, this is the desert and conservation and conscientious use are appreciated.

Disponible para huéspedes

Guests have access to all rooms in the house except those used for storage. What remains is 2000 sq. feet of living space. The living room, kitchen, 1.5 bath, 2 bedrooms, expansive bonus room upstairs with a loveseat with full sleeper, as well as patio, second story balconies, and garage (what space remains in it, anyway) are available for your use.

Atención a los huéspedes

None. We do not live nearby, but neighbors keep an eye on things for us.

Because we are not available to collect county occupancy taxes in person, your cost will be REVISED to include an 8.5 percent county tax before you are confirmed. This tax is not included in the daily rate (because that would also increase your fees to Airbnb).

Once you request to stay, I will edit the pricing to reflect this tax. This tax is about $13.50 per night on the nightly rentals and a bit less for weekly or monthly rentals. Please understand that this is the best way to handle occupancy taxes (for both host and guest) until Airbnb establishes a process for collecting and remitting them. Given the rural nature of Crook County, Airbnb is unlikely to add our location to its list of places where this service is provided to hosts.

Because we are not on-site, you will have to turn on a propane tank and well pump (basically flipping a switch) as well as make your own breakfasts (we keep pancake mix, breakfast bars, and oatmeal in the cupboard). You will have to wash your own dishes, pots, and pans, and leave things as clean as you found them. We make the beds prior to your arrival in warmer months, but we leave them unmade in winter so you can choose between flannel and cotton.

We provide thorough information on how to turn things on, and we are available by phone if you have questions.

Otros aspectos destacables

The house is a bit too far from Bend for a ski or snowboard weekend. It's a long-feeling one hour drive to Bend and another 1/2 hour or so for Mt. Bachelor. It could work if you wanted to take a long weekend or week to explore more of Central Oregon and just go to Bend or Mt. Bachelor for one of your many days.

We are close to many other popular attractions and activities in Central Oregon:

25 minutes from downtown Prineville and rodeo, antique car, cycling, motorcycling, and golf events.

15-20 minutes from Prineville Reservoir State Park for boating, fishing, motorized watersports, and swimming.

50 minutes from Smith Rock State Park, with world-class climbing and hiking routes. Ask us about the best driving route. There is a much shorter back way to the park.

1 hour 30 minutes from the Painted Hills National Monument.

We require guests to strip the beds, vaccum or sweep main areas, and run the dishwasher before they leave. Please plan departure time accordingly.

We do not have garbage service at the house. You will have to take your garbage with you or use facilities at the county dump.

We have made significant sacrifices to build, furnish, and maintain this home. Because we spend much of our vacation time here, it is not "just a rental" to us. Please treat the house and our things with respect. We want your good karma to be palpable when we return.

Signs of good karma? Cleanliness, furniture left where we place it, departure checklist followed to the letter, and of course, a positive vibe.

Because the house is located in a rural area prized by neighbors for its peace, quiet, and star-gazing, our house is not appropriate for those who want to have loud music or lots of exterior lights on during their stay. Please help keep our neighborhood peaceful and dark at night.

We have recently drilled a well. As a result, water restrictions formerly emphasized here no longer apply. Nonetheless, this is a deep desert well, and water should always be conserved. Do only full loads of dishes, limit length of showers, and use commercial car washes for vehicles and boats. Our hoses are for emergency use only.

PETS: Well behaved pets are fine, but please take extra care with cleaning / vacuuming and picking up outside around the house before you leave. Pets are not permitted on beds or around bedding. All pets should be up to date with topical flea and tick repellent prior to arrival. All items above are the sole responsibility of the pet owner.

CHILDREN: The house is not appropriate for young children. There are no safety mechanisms on second story windows, blinds, balconies, nor are the grounds toddler-friendly. Mindful kids above the age of 7 or 8 are probably fine.

SMOKING and VAPING: No smoking of any kind in the house, on balconies or on the patios or driveway. No vaping either. The medical risks of vapor and the fire hazards associated with such technology make this house unsuitable for those needing such accommodations.

WILDFIRES: Please note the serious fire risk in breezy desert environments. Fire and grilling in propane fire pit and grill only. No open fires ever.

FIREWORKS: Because of the serious fire risk and the water restrictions, no fireworks of any kind, including sparklers, are permitted on or around the property. This includes driveways and gravel roads. Any guest found to have used fireworks of any kind will assume all responsibility for fires of any size that may have resulted from such use, including responsibility for property losses to neighbors resulting from such use. This is not an appropriate house for those who want to celebrate with pyrotechnics.

NO DAILY HOUSEKEEPING SERVICE: Guests are expected to maintain in the house and on the grounds a reasonable degree of cleanliness and tidiness during their stay comparable to the conditions they found upon arrival. The security deposit will be withheld if such conditions are not maintained. Please make sure you plan you stay and departure to allow sufficient time for running the dishwasher and cleaning prior to your departure.

GARBAGE: We do NOT currently have garbage service at the house, so you will have to take your garbage with you when you leave. When you reserve, we provide suggestions on where to take it if you are not simply making a short drive home. If you are booking a long-term rental, we can arrange garbage service.

FIREPLACES and GRILLS: The indoor fireplace is a wood-burning stove that requires careful ignition and monitoring. The outdoor fire pit and barbecue grills are both propane fueled and carry inherent risks when lighting. Please assess wind conditions and direction and take care when lighting. Do not burn anything in the fire pit or grill other than the fuel that they are designed to burn.

SEPTIC: The septic system is very effective; however, it will clog up if improper material is flushed. Use only single ply toilet paper. No wipes of any kind. All components of feminine products should be disposed of in garbage, not toilet.

STORM POLICY: No refunds will be given for weather events or temporary loss of power except according to the regular cancellation policy. Gravel roads and driveways are well maintained and four-wheel drive is generally not necessary; however, we highly recommend front-wheel drive vehicles with all-season tires from November through April.

MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY: The maximum number of guests is limited to five (5) persons.

MINIMUM STAY: This property requires a three (3) night minimum stay. Longer minimum stays (4 nights) may be required during the busy summer season and holiday periods. If you hope to rent for less than the minimum stay, we still charge for the minimum. I recommend booking for three with the additional day at the end of your stay in case you decide to take full advantage of that time and extend your stay.

COUNTY TAXES: Although Airbnb charges and remits the 1% state tax, it does not remit the 8.5% county tax. As a result, after you request to book, I will send a "special offer" with the tax added. I know that's not so much an offer as a tax, but it is the best way of handling the county occupancy tax requirement.

LIABILITIES AND INJURIES: The home owners assume no responsibility for illness or injury that humans or pets may incur while on the premises. This includes but is not limited to injury resulting from the effects of weather, the uneven terrain on the grounds, the presence of wildlife, or the conditions in or construction of the house. The Homeowners are not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite to use the premise with them.

SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUND REQUIREMENTS: Security deposits will NOT be refunded if the house or grounds show lack of care, insufficient cleaning, or minor damage, including, but not limited to the following: dirty dishes or cookware, counters, sink, coffee pot, stove, oven, or microwave; spills or significant crumbs or fur on carpets or furniture; stains on linens and bedding; missing towels, linens, or blankets; dents in floors or walls (we do know about existing ones); waste left in garbage cans or toilets; perishables left in the refrigerator; or pet waste in the maintained areas of the yard.

Marylynne sent us excellent detailed information before our trip to her home. Her home is out in the country but she provided excellent directions (unlike our GPS in our auto which had us going in circles!) Her home is beautiful and very clean and inviting. Marylynne had a plethora of excellent information in her home available for her guests. Marylynne also sent us an email with suggestions and places to go to keep cool. We were there during 100 degree + weather as well as wildfires and unfortunately we were unable to enjoy the views that her place has due to the thick veil of smoke. I would suggest if you visit in the heat of summer to bring extra fans as even with the drapes closed the temp in the home was near 90 degrees and the upstairs where the bedrooms are was even hotter. Prineville is a fantastic area with many great sites to visit. Excellent Marylynne, Thanks!

This house is gorgeous! The back patio looks out over the Cascade Mountains and offers a spectacular view! The house was well equipped and lacked nothing to make our week a "home away from home." There are nice walks within a mile or so from the house. Prineville is only 20 minutes away, and the Reservoir is about 15 minutes away. It was great to have Netflix and Internet available. And if you work the windows - open at night to let in the cool air, curtains closed against the sun, etc. the house stayed remarkably cool even though the outside temps. were in the high 90's. One day we drove to Smith Rock State Park, and it was about a 45 minute drive. Redmond is just over half hour away. We got gas in Powell Butte and it was $.20 a gallon less than Prineville. Marylynne is a delight to communicate with, very responsive. We highly recommend this house for a relaxing and lovely vacation.

Wonderful home in a rural setting. Photos are accurate though the view from the second floor is better than what is shown and there is a balcony on the second floor. Hard to take a pictures of the stars at night but this is a great place with unobstructed views. The house was clean and kitchen was fully stocked with cooking necessities. For the most part, there is little contact with neighbors and their homes a good distance away. The beds were comfortable. The nearest town of Prineville is about 20-25 minutes away but that was indicated in the listing. It is an easy drive and Redmond and Bend are relatively near as well. We would stay here again without question.

The best day of our stay was when we stayed near the house, and I think that says it all! Walks around the neighborhood feeding the donkeys, board games, cooking, swinging on the outside bench, staring at gorgeous, unobstructed views. It was all wonderful! It was 97 degrees our first day which was tough inside, but cooled down quickly at night and other days (80-90 degrees) were perfectly fine inside. Make sure to bring a travel humidifier if you have one! It is DRY in Prineville!

The house was better than as viewed on line. Everything was ready for our arrival with clear written instructions for the home. The view was amazing. Nice comfortable home.

Respuesta de Marylynne:
Thanks, Kathy. We try to provide an accurate description of the location, but the remote location has been an issue for 2-3 guests. If you have a moment, could you suggest where or how to make this clearer to guests? We do state that it is about 20 minutes outside of town, but I'm not sure whether we say that in the right place to get the attention of those to whom this would matter. ML

Marylynne was very informative and detailed about making sure the stay was going to allow me to have a great time. She provided very good instructions about the area and things to do / see. Prineville will be a future destination of my family and I when we get the opportunity...and we will be staying at the Cascade view home if available.
