A welcoming place in the beautiful foothills of the Canadian Rockies. The house is situated on 5 acres bordering a protected provincial park and a short distance from the charming hamlet of Bragg Creek, Alberta. We have lovingly renovated this somewhat quirky country abode. It is bright and clean with all modern conveniences yet we have maintained its woodsy feel and rustic charm. It is surrounded by a mix of peaceful forest and sunny open terrain.

El alojamiento
This 1650 sq. ft. house is cosy and equipped to accommodate up to 8 people** . In the kitchen you will find enough dishes and cutlery for everyone. There are pots, pans, and cooking tools galore. Eight chairs fit around the dining table. We have your typical basic small and large appliances (sorry, no cappuccino machine but we did splurge on a new programmable toaster...good luck with that...25% off your next booking to the first guest who shows us how to make it stop flashing!)

The living room has a comfy leather couch and chairs. We have a funky 50s era retro electric fireplace that gives off a warm glow with the flick of a switch (that's right, none of the muss and fuss of wood burning!). There is an open office-like space upstairs with a big old oak desk, a nice view and a selection of engaging books our friends didn't want anymore.

Enjoy peaceful sleeps (the kind you can only get in the country) in one of our three queen or two single beds. All with crisp ironed sheets and pillowcases.

Outside there is a large deck with a pergola, patio furniture and a BBQ. Outdoor entertainment is further augmented with a horseshoe pitch, a frisbee and soccer ball. We also have a couple of beater townie bikes on site for your use. You can coast to town in about 5 minutes (slightly more effort to pedal back -- it's uphill).

Hikers, mountain bikers & skiers....we can lend you trail maps, guidebooks and bear spray.

Cell phone coverage at the house is reliable . We have 25 mbps internet with wifi. There is a smart TV for access to a Netflix account or your own streaming services. We also have a digital TV antenna that pulls in all local stations from Calgary (CBC/CTV/CityTV/Global) in full HD. Furthermore, we dug up an old DVD player and have a selection of random discs (Mr. Bean, Titanic, Austin Powers, nature shows, Barbie, Downton Abbey Season 4, etc.) ...or bring your own.

Years ago this property was the site of a fully functional sawmill (hence the name). Timber was harvested and milled for construction of barns and houses (this one included) in the surrounding area and beyond. The milling equipment has long since been removed but the building which housed it still stands in all its rustic glory--enhancing your view from the house.

Acceso para huéspedes
You will have access to the entire house and all its amenities. There is a locked shed for storing bikes, skis, and such if you bring them.

You will be welcome to wander around the entire (5 acre) property. Directly adjacent to the north is the expansive forested Bragg Creek Provincial Park which is a totally public space. The Elbow River runs through the park and there is a pleasant interpretive trail.

On all other sides of us are properties of our various (3) neighbours and we ask that you respect their privacy. Since the property boundaries are not obvious please refer to the aerial photo map provided at check in. Note that the pond visible from the house is not on our property...enjoy the view but please do not go in it in the summer or on it in the winter.

Otros aspectos destacables

**Our base nightly rate applies for up to 4 people and can vary depending on time of year. For each additional guest (including children 2-12) there is an extra $25CAD/person/night charge.

The house has a well which produces potable water. There is also a dispenser with bottled water for those who prefer. The well flow rate is 7gpm which is adequate for typical household use.

On rare occasions potentially dangerous wildlife such a cougars and bears are seen around here. Children should always be accompanied by an adult when outdoors. Even the relatively docile animals like deer and moose which frequent the property should be appreciated from a distance.

In the winter a vehicle with snow tires is required to get in and out. We hire a snow clearing service for the access road and our driveway. They come out within 24 hours of a snowfall greater than 5 cms. Occasionally we get huge dumps and access can be iffy without a 4-wheel drive before the road is plowed.

Louise is a family doctor practicing in Calgary. She has a passion for renovating, decorating and landscaping which was fully unleashed on this property. My time is spent undertaking various indoor and outdoor projects and pretending to be a lumberjack. We are both outdoor enthusiasts and have been hiking, biking and skiing around here and further afield for many years. We can point you in the right direction for adventures ranging from the tame to the hardcore. We have two college-aged daugthers. One is a mountain sports nut and the other one is sensible. Louise is fluent in English, French and Spanish. When communicating with me use English for best results.

Durante tu estancia
During your stay you may see us puttering around the sawmill building as we have recently completed converting it into a dwelling for our personal use. There is good separation (about 25 metres and a row of trees) between the house and the sawmill. The sawmill has a separate driveway and parking so we will not be in your hair. That being said, we will be readily available to address questions and concerns or to impart local knowledge if desired.

During the summer expect occasional sightings of Tim on a riding mower or performing other grounds-keeping tasks.
