The perfect home-base for exploring Cape Breton, or a clean and comfortable seaside retreat, MacLeod Cove is a 3-bedroom winterized cottage on the Bras d'Or, Cape Breton's beautiful inland sea. Enjoy ocean views and semi-private cove, within 25 minutes drive of Baddeck, North Sydney (Newfoundland ferry terminal), and the Cabot Trail. The cottage is also very private and surrounded by pristine natural environments of forest, creek and cove. Wildlife sightings are common both on land and in the sea.
The cottage is fresh and clean with new paint, flooring, appliances and furniture.

El alojamiento
We inherited this home from my mother who was a smoker but it has been a strictly smoke-free space since February of 2017. In order to make it clean and comfortable both for our family of non-smokers as well as for you, we removed or cleaned all furniture. We replaced all upholstered furniture, beds, bedding, towels and rugs. We removed all carpeting and replaced it with new carpet or vinyl flooring. We washed every surface, every outlet, and all fixtures. We also replaced the fridge and stove, as well as all of the small appliances. We primed and then painted all of the walls.
We have a house keeper who will ensure that the windows are opened, and the cottage is freshly cleaned prior to your arrival with clean linens on the beds, and floors and counters freshly sanitized.

Acceso para huéspedes
The entire house is yours to use - make yourself at home! We have some boxes and other things stored in 2 closets but that leaves 4 closets for you.

Otros aspectos destacables
Pets are welcome everywhere but on the furniture.
Please be kind to our septic system and flush only toilet paper.
The cove is accessed by stone stairs that can be challenging if you are at all unsteady on your feet - please take care.
We'd love to hear how it goes - please don't hesitate to let us know, and please sign our guest book!

This is very much a private retreat into nature. Our neighbours on one side are about 100 feet away and on the other side, are across our small valley. For the most part, you can't see any neighbours either from the house or the cove.
Wildlife is common: many species of birds, fox and other animals populate the area. It is not uncommon to spot a seal swimming by from the cove.
The nearest towns are 20 minutes drive or about 25 miles in either direction, so a little planning ahead is required in order to have supplies and groceries on hand.
There is an excellent seafood restaurant very nearby - about 8 minutes by car, across the bridge.
Gas and Tim Hortons coffee are a little closer as well - about 15 minutes away by car.
Within a short drive of the house are long beaches for walking, as well as a natural fresh water fall with a pool for (very chilly) swimming.
The house sits directly on the sea, at the base of Kelly's mountain. In the fall, the colours on the mountain are spectacular.
The 2 nearest towns are Baddeck and North Sydney.

Baddeck is a very popular a picturesque town with a beautiful lighthouse, shops, galleries, many restaurants and both an excellent museum and golf course. The nearest medical center is in Baddeck.

North Sydney is a port town with all the necessities: large grocery stores, banks, and restaurants. It is also the location of the Newfounland Ferry docks.

An hour away is the much larger port city of Sydney that has all of the amenities as well as the airport which is the only entry point to Cape Breton for travelers arriving by commercial aircraft.

I recently inherited this property from my parents who retired here in 1996. In 1997, my husband and I were married in the back yard overlooking the water. Since then, we've been visiting with our children and dog nearly every summer and it has become very special to us. Now that it is ours, we would like to share it. I think my parents would love the idea of people enjoying their cove and views as much as they did. I am a teacher and Derek is a biologist so we are not able to come back to the sea as often as we'd like. Please enjoy it for us. Sheila MacLeod Potter
