Paola and Rick were most gracious hosts, making us feel like family. Their four dogs, often kept in separate quarters (for those of you concerned about this), likewise, made us feel at home. Paola stayed in contact prior to our arrival which is always a comforting gesture for the first time staying with a new AirB&B host.
The room was wonderful and clean, and we had private use of the pool for the duration of our stay. Morning breakfasts were amazing, not to be outdone by any 4-star hotel restaurant. Some days we even skipped lunch due the quantity of food provided.
If you desire privacy, this is totally doable; but we tend to like social engagement to explore details about life and work in Mexico (or wherever we visit). Rick, having lived in Mexico for over 10 years, is an amazing source of information about business, Mexican politics and is well read on many topics. If you don't plan to spend every evening "on the town", you can always return to Casa Tuluminus and engage in an evening of entertaining and informative discussion. Rick has amazing experiences and stories. Paola, originally from the Mexico City area, likewise has wonderful insights.
Whether suffering from a bout of stomach illness (we both had one day each of this issue), or suggestions on local restaurants (Tulum is quite the foodie town!), Paola and Rick are ready to help. (I was even surprised one evening with a special birthday celebration and an amazing cake, a creation of Paola's!)
Although a car is useful, downtown restaurants are easily accessible on foot or bike; and the beach is accessible by bike or taxi. There is a small parking area across the street from the B&B if you have a rental car.
I hope my review doesn't foreclose access to this "home away from home" in the future. Marie and I plan to return, next time for 2 weeks as we begin to explore a winter home option in Tulum.
