Private room in our 175 year old farm house in the historic Village of Gagetown, NB.

We run a small sustainable farm with a few goats, chickens, rabbits & ducks. We operate our home as a travelers' hostel, so we're used to having people in & out

El lugar

Our hostel is located on a 2 acre sustainable farm in the historic Village of Gagetown. It is an old farmhouse that we're in the process of updating and modernizing but parts of the house are still very old. Everything is clean but much of the decor is still very dated (we'll call it "old-world charm").

The Village itself sits on the Saint John River which creates a plethora of outdoor activities. Check out the hostel website at (URL HIDDEN)

Our property provides a laid back country atmosphere for those looking for a peaceful getaway.

Disponible para huéspedes

Guests have access to everything! Kitchen, 2 full bathrooms, living room, dining room, outdoor eating areas in the summer (screened in front porch), fire pit, BBQ, etc. We also have wifi and, most importantly, GOATS! Who could resist!

Atención a los huéspedes

We interact with guests as much or as little as they would like depending on our schedule. We are used to having people around and are generally good at gauging these types of things.

Otros aspectos destacables

We do have a hypo-allergenic dog named "Beans" on the property. She's very friendly and loves other animals!

Our property has a hand dug well (water) which is used for showering, cleaning, etc. Drinking water is provided in your room as well as in the kitchen area for tea, coffee, cooking, etc.

Special Note: Because we are an operational farm we always have projects on the go and although we do our best to keep them contained, they can sometimes overflow into other areas.

Julie's place was a great stopping point on route to Bay of Fundy. We loved the country feel of this place and walked the little block of the cute town. There was a farmers market on the day and we walked to their store in town. The country setting was very quiet. Note that the shared bathroom is in the hallway. I think the 3 girls in the room down the hall were using the bathroom every couple hours during the night so that was a little bothersome. The place is very creatively decorated and we loved the bicycle Julie had made and placed on the wall. As the house is very old, there is a smell of oldness and mustiness. A lavender potpourri in the bed room would have been a nice addition and could have been nice to open the bedroom window (seemed to be painted shut) We didn't use the shower but washroom was large and roomy. I am giving Julie's place a 4 for cleanliness as the mirrors in the washroom were quite dirty and the floors felt sandy when walking barefoot throughout the house. Julie and Sean were very pleasant and made suggestions about taking a little ferry shortcut to make our way to Bay of Fundy which was great.

We felt very welcomed by Julie and Sean. We loved the neighbourhood, and our children did as well (bunk beds bring the excitement every time!).

The village is old and the nearby restaurant serves good chowder. The farm (two acres) has goats, rabbits and chickens, and the dog is friendly. This is, however, a hostel, and the accommodations reflect that. Our room was shabby, the water undrinkable and the bathtub out of service. It seemed that not a lot of effort had been put into making the space comfortable for guests, and the hospitality mentioned by other reviewers was missing during our visit. If you are looking for a bit of an adventure, this might fit the bill, but don't expect too much.

We stopped in Gagetown for a couple of days on a road trip from the U.S. and had such an awesome stay at the farm, it was just what we were looking for. The house and property are beautiful and it was a lot of fun to see all of the animals and to enjoy the charms of an old-style home. Julie was super-accommodating and we really enjoyed chatting with her. The area is quite beautiful and charming also. It really felt like home away from home.

We were there for 5 nights and it was not easy to say goodbye in the end! Hosts, animals and everything growing on the farm, all made for a perfect relaxing holiday. Gagetown itself is a very tranquil village, at night you hear NOTHING. Would stay there again, would recommend too. Thanks again Julie and Sean!

My husband Sean and I strive to live a sustainable, balanced life! We are small scale organic farmers (Sean fulltime, and myself part-time), and I am also a natural medicine practitioner in Fredericton during the week.

We love to travel when time and budget permit, and enjoy hosting the rest of the year. We operate our home as a traveler's hostel all year-round. This allows us to pay forward the safe and interesting travel opportunities that others have offered us in the past, while allowing the world to come to us when we can't go to the world.
