County Kerry, Irlanda

Ballyheigue is a lovely little coastal village. The tranquil atmosphere of the village set within beautiful surroundings, and with close proximity to many popular tourist attractions, lends itself to an unique, and unforgettable Irish holiday experience.

The village has many amenities to cater for your everyday needs, including a few convenience stores, various shops, traditional Irish pubs, and a family friendly hotel.
With an evening out in Ballyheigue, you will experience Irish culture at it’s best! With warm and welcoming locals, coupled with live music playing in the bars (at weekends and more frequently during the summer months), you’re guaranteed to have a good time!

Ballyheigue is home to an extensive beach which is the start of a 10km stretch of sand running southwards, all the way past Black Rock and Banna to the mouth of Barrow Harbour. The beach sits within a designated Special Area of Conservation and is one of the finest beaches in Ireland, with literally miles of golden sands backed with unspoiled sand dunes. Awarded its ‘ Blue Flag” status again in May 2020, it is highly rated amongst the safest, cleanest beaches along the southwest coast of Ireland. You can swim in the clean Atlantic waters, and during high season months, the beach is manned with lifeguards. The bay is also ideal for many other water sports including kayaking, windsurfing and kite surfing.

Alongside the beach for family fun, there is a safe, gated playground for children to enjoy.
Other outdoor recreational activities in the village which guests can partake in, include sea- fishing, birdwatching and golfing.
Ballyheigue has it’s own nine hole golf course, which is situated just adjacent to our holiday home. The golf course lies on the grounds of Ballyheigue castle, a former 18th century castle. With the castle ruins as a backdrop, and panoramic sea and mountains views, the Castle golf club is one of the most scenic golf courses in the country. Furthermore, Ballyheigue is only a short driving distance from the links courses in Ballybunion and Tralee.

There are many cycling routes around this picturesque coastal area. The most popular is “Kerry Head,” a circuit which takes on a coastline route around North Kerry.
For walkers, many people enjoy the 6km round trip, beach walk to Black Rock. For the more enthusiastic hiker, Killarney National Park is ideal. With woodlands, hidden valleys, waterfalls and glacial lakes, there is a beautiful and diverse landscape to be explored.
County Kerry is truly a gem when it comes to the “Great Outdoors.”

Just a 5 minute drive away, at Banna Beach Leisure Complex, you can make use of indoor swimming facilities, an indoor soft play centre and a fitness gym. Banna Strand, which is another blue- flag beach, is an excellent surfing location. It has several surfing schools operating during the summer months. Here, you can also rent surf- boards and wetsuits for a very reasonable price.

For more fun-filled things to do, there are lots of attractions in the vibrant town of Tralee, which is a 15-20 minute drive away. These include the Aqua Dome indoor water park, an Omniplex Cinema, the Wetlands outdoor activity centre, the Playdium play centre, a ten pin bowling alley and Siamsa Tire ( Ireland’s National Folk Theatre). Tralee also has great shopping facilities and nightlife. There really is lots for all the family to enjoy!

Ballyheigue is a great base for exploring the Dingle Peninsula, and the renowned Ring of Kerry. A tour around this breathtaking coastline on the Wild Atlantic Way will take in many popular tourist attractions.
