I stayed 11 days at Duygu's place & I have to say, as an adventurous single woman, it was ideal! Ortaköy has a marvelous small village feel that I really like experiencing when away from home. It is not at all touristy & feels far removed from the noise & chaos of other areas of the city. Many are the times I walked home after dark with no problem - while always alert, I never felt unsafe. The room is on the 2nd floor of the duplex & with a great amount of natural light, which is always pleasant. It has its own entrance & private bath with shower. The air conditioning worked like dream on those hot Istanbul nights & the terrace was great for early morning (before it gets too hot!!) reflection & a cup of tea. Duygu is a designer, entrepreneur & cool to chat with about all sorts of topics. And she is a fantastic cook :D!!!
If you are seeking a quiet, well-kept place with a sophisticated hostess, I highly recommend this listing. If you don't mind walking (I'm a native New Yorker used to walking) you can easily get to Çirigan street, the main road lined with former palaces now luxury hotels & fabulous tall trees leading to all the public transportation options: metro, bus depot, tram & dolmas to take you to Sultanahmet, Galata, Taksim & it's neighborhoods & all the ferries. Also, the Bosphorus waterfront is quite close by the apartment in either direction if you care to stroll or eat/dine with great views across to the Anatolian side. There are ample places to eat but my favorite was Ortaköy Olive Cafe, no smoking!!! :) There are plenty of fresh fruit & vegetable markets, lots of bakeries & a large Migros supermarket a few minutes away. Also, there is a washer downstairs; always nice to have freshly laundered clothes when traveling for an extended period!
I enjoyed my hostess, the area & the accommodations & hope you will as well :))
