Özlem’s place is situated in an excellent location in the suburb of Fener. It is only 10 minutes by bus to Eminönü from where you can easily walk to any of the sites in Sultanahmet, or go by tram if you prefer. Eminönü is also a good hub from which to get to anywhere else in Istanbul or to take ferry trips up the Bosphorus. Fener itself is an exciting suburb, with its narrow cobbled streets and loads of small cafes and restaurants. It has a quiet and relaxed feel but also a vibrancy and life that makes it an excellent place to stay for travellers who want to be away from the tourist areas, but still relatively close to all there is to see and do. The apartment was well appointed and comfortable. We slept very well and had everything we needed. Özlem and Yuksel were excellent hosts, very thoughtful and hospitable and provided good communication throughout our stay.

Beautiful apartment with an excellent terrace and interesting location. There are two spacious, clean and well decorated rooms, with good kitchen facilities and a large bathroom. The building is really nicely decorated. The key advantage is the surrounding area: down the hill you have Balat with nice cafes, restaurants, antique shops and a wealth of historical buildings - Chora church, the magnificent Theodosian city walls, synagogues, Orthodox churches, some of the oldest mosques in the city - truly a treasure-trove. Around and up the hill is Carsamba, a very conservative area that will give you a serious insight into the life of the devoutly muslim people of the City. Although the immediate area is not kept up well, it feels like the actual Istambul - more so than the fancy-schmancy Beyoglu that looks like anywhere in Europe, or Sultanahmet with its tourist traps. We have seriously enjoyed the prayer calls from numerous mosques around. The only drawback is the distance from the Sultanahmet/Galata areas where most of the major sights are. However, there is a fast bus connection to Eminonu, and from there links to any place. Altogether, these lovely apartments in authentic surroundings was a prime choice.

First thing I should mention it is that place more than amazing, the sea view, the historical buildings around, the location is perfect for tourist" it's near to the public places ,restaurants, cafes, and buss station ". For people who are coming first time to Istanbul it will be a perfect place to stay. Özlem and her partner are really kind, friendly, and niece. The apartment is really comfortable and clean,"the building is made by Greeks" As to me when I back to Istanbul for sure I would love to stay in Özlem's place.

We loved it here. The bed (top floor apartment) is HUGE and really comfy, the shower is HOT and powerful. The view from the Terrace is beautiful and the neighbourhood is really interesting and friendly with some lovely places for breakfast / lunch / dinner / coffee etc. We stayed in the top floor apartment which was quite small but perfect for a couple who are going to eat out and not cook. There are facilities for cooking but they are more suited for making tea and easy things like breakfast. But with so many interesting and delicious places to eat locally it's better to eat out. We loved Forno Balat for breakfast, and Agora for dinner was also amazing. Walking up the hill to Fatih you can find a really interesting neighbourhood to look around. Also there's a little store on the corner of Vodina which sells freshly squeezed pomergranate juice really cheaply - lovely. And a small Kofte restaurant on the main road that runs along the waterfront, amazing kofte there I can't remember the name but if you (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) balat kofte it comes up on an article called "the good ship meatball" or something on istanbul eats. The bus to Eminuou is a bit hectic, you have to really wave it down, it won't necessarily pull into the stop - traffic often terrible so maybe quicker to walk. Also the bus station at Eminunou is HECTIC to figure out but trams are easier. All in all a lovely place and we would come again :) Ozlem and her partner at the house were super helpful booking taxis to airports and suggesting a hammam for us to visit and restaurants to go to.
